Not anymore. Their management was absolutely appalling. Even when I sat them down (me being a dish pig and them the "managers") to outline a better strategy in the management of staff and duties (I was studying Laws and Business, so it was kind of a hobby to critique these kinds of things), they shrugged it off and did not care.
They eventually did something about it when they were forced to. Fast forward a week after I walk out and a man stabbed his mother in the head at the Sizzler I worked at. Fast forward some weeks again and and they find rat poison in the Sizzler closest to the one I used to work out. Only then did they actually start to care about the way they ran things.
Anyway, off topic!
Have you decided between the TZ and SZ, or are you going to wait for a SZ review?
-
UTIL ROX!!!
Not yet, im waiting for confirmation from other members who are having problems connecting their TZ to an external monitor with a resolution of 1980 x 1200. The TZ would be perfect for mobile uses, and when im not on the road, connect it to my 24". If it cant display it, ill just go with the SZ. -
i'm in the same boat -- but i think i read on sony's spec sheet that the max resolution that the tz supports is 1600x1200
-
if you're going to run on vista and plan to output to a high res monitor, the SZ might be a better solution than the TZ due to its discreet graphics solution. a few have complained about the slowness of the TZ when outputting to a high res. monitor.
-
Four core will only be for desktop replacement laptops, and they'll be huge, have no battery, and still melt the motherboard every few months. The new material will probably help with that, but still, I think you'll have a long time to wait before you ever see a quad core in an SZ. Even Intel isn't suggesting it'll be ready for anything other than a desktop replacement.

Quad Core or not, can't wait!
-
Well, the Sony Style website is now ready for it. They just haven't put it up yet.
On the plus side, you can be notified when it becomes ready, at least.

How did you find it? I try the SZ series and doesn´t appear then the search function and nothing.
Anyway good job, I already signed up to be notified -

I think the SZ will be officially on the Sonystyle site in September when the T7250 is released and prices drop on the other processors.
-
ashtanga-warrior Notebook Consultant
That webpage is incorrect the wireless doesn't list N no specs wrong pictures the only thing that seems correct is the T7700 processor
Sony just get the product out! -
So upon reading about the SZ6-series I decided to call the sonystyle phone number (hoping they were selling it and one might take advantage of the free shipping deal) and basically the woman acted like I was nuts. She told me there was no sz6 series and went on to explain that 4 was the newest and perhaps I was thinking of the sz46-whatever. ::rolls eyes:: So-called experts, huh?
-
what is sz640 series? it is not in sony website.
where can I buy sz660/680 now? does anyone have it in stock? -
btw for wireless wan
Wireless WAN : Optional Sprint® Mobile Broadband service 18
does this mean I can only use it with sprint only? no verizon/cingular/t-mobile? -
I think it'll only work for EVDO network. if they do lock it so you can only use it with sprint, I bet someone will hack it to unlock it to verizon and other EVDO networks.
-

The SZ640 is customizable but does not have an LED display. -
They've been doing that for weeks, put me on hold while they checked the website then told me there were no rumors but maybe to check with the business side, which also knew nothing of what I was talking about.
Tech support said two weeks to a month a few days ago, but also that they don't know for sure. No one does. -
have anyone call CDW? so basically no one has stock. I am buying tomorrow if I can find a seller
-
Yes, that's what I meant when I said the business side. They didn't know what I was talking about.
It's customer service that you want to talk to. -

There is a user here that ordered the sz650 from amazon.com and got it the next day. She paid 40 bucks for the shipping you can read the thread for yourself. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=153052
Datavision in NY seems to have them too. I don´t know where you are though, me I am waiting for a 2.4 ghz 7200rpm 200gb HDD
-
Played with an SZ 650 tonight two stores had it here in Hawaii... Amazon.com JR Music World (was the cheapest) and a few other places had it in stock as well.
Does anyone know if it has media keys like the TZ or CR or FE's or just the two assignable keys?
BTW way screen was great really fast even with LOADS of crapware.
I'm considering waiting for the SZ670 but the TZ is sweet! -
i'm just waiting for them to arrive in the country!
curse my isolation. -
I know that the draft standard is compatible with some manufacturers' deployment of the n spec. Does anyone know if I will be benefit with teh Vaio SZ's 802.11n if I am using the new Apple Airport Extreme?
Thanks -
datavision seems to have poor customer review.
and it seems amazon only sell SZ650. I want the wireless wan -
Amazon says the SZ660, SZ670 will be 4-6 weeks in coming.
-
Looks like the diff between the 650 and 660 is the WWAN can we add that after?
I'm disapointed there are is no direct media capabilities. -
The question of HD speed: Is the only way to get 7200 RPM to get a 680 Built-To-Order? Otherwise stuck with 5400 or 4200 on all other sz6 models?
This might actually make me consider a TZ. -
which store? maybe i'll stop by and check it out
-
any one know when these hit australia,
i had similar experience with sony central they didnt know anything apart from what was on sony.com.au -
Does the sz640 hav LED ?
-
Gristy from GG?
We generally get the same models that Hong Kong does, and they apparently have theirs out on the market already. Based on that, I would say that Sony Australia are waiting for the stocks of their current SZ version to run down, so I doubt anyone is allowed to/can give you a date.
You could try ringing your local Harvey Norman store and asking to speak to either their Product Manager or Hardware Manager and seeing if they have been told any information by their Sony rep. -
Like our americian counterparts, Sony employees know nothing about the SZ6. They denied it until I showed them the Sony.com website. The fact is, they have only just released the SZ483NC, and removed the "NEW" tag from the Sony.com.au site just last week.
-
When I get my TZ, I'll be going into the old Harvey store that I used to be a sales manager at to get some other gear. If there is any, I'll be able to get some insider information. If it is available for pre-order, I'll be able to find out as well.
Mind you, that wont be for another couple of weeks. -
The SZ660/670 and CTO 680 configs are now available at Portable One:
http://laptopsinc.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=SSZ -
Shirokiya & Pure Digital.
I'm really bummed about the direct media not being included. -
ashtanga-warrior Notebook Consultant
actually all the configs are now available. you just have to click in configure/more info and you can choose the 7200 rpm HDD in both 160 and 200 the 4gb of ram upgrade is only 300 not that expensive if compared to before when it was like 600 on the sz400´s
-

None of the 680's has WAN, I want it!
-
heh 680 has no wan? what models have wan? 660 and?
-
ashtanga-warrior Notebook Consultant
The 670. To me it makes no sense that the one you can customize the most, doesn't offer it but anyway....
Does santa rosa support 800mhz RAM for notebooks, or I have to stick to 667 for my *future* sz680? -
Where were you able to choose 680's config? Please, post the link.
-
The link was posted two posts above yours:
http://laptopsinc.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=SSZ -
2.4ghz processor with customizable RAM/HDD:
http://laptopsinc.com/Merchant2/mer...GNSZ680N05&Category_Code=SSZ&Product_Count=10
If you want the 2.2 or 2.0 processor you have to go back to the link I had in my last post and look for it (look for '680' in 'Code:'). -
800mhz ram? i don't think it's even out yet.
-
ashtanga-warrior Notebook Consultant
I think you are right, I was looking at this thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=83125 and even there the conclusion seemed to be that it doesn´t really exist. My bad
-
Whats the difference between customizing the 640 and the 680 if they end up having the same specs? Anything?
Also, how legit is this? Are they just opening the stock models and adding the requested RAM/HDD or does this actually come from SONY, because that doesnt seem possible. -
ashtanga-warrior Notebook Consultant
The 680 has the premium casing, just look at the pic. Also they don't offer the HDD upgrade without voiding the warranty.
The HDD is their own working
*This special hard drive modification is performed by P1’s authorized Sony service engineers and is covered by P1’s 3 Year Advance Replacement Warranty; it is not covered by Sony since they do not offer such options. Anyone other Sony and/or their authorized service centers performing such upgrades will void the manufacturers warranty.
They also offer
*Free VAIO SZ Neoprene Carrying & AC Case
**Free FedEx Shipping!
I just spke to them and asked if they could upgrade an sz670 that has WAN and just add the 200gb 7200 rpm HDD. The guy said that he couldn't tell me right away as he had to check it with the sony guy to make sure it didn't void the warranty. It would be an extra 300 dollars for the WAN so I may not want it after all.
I'll tell you how it turns out
-
The difference is the casing. Look at the side by side pictures, the 680 is way thinner.
You know it's legit because google checkout works with the. They still offer a warranty, so it works.
I just ordered from them, but I messed up my order so had to fix it. (Don't know how I did that)
Hands down the best service I have ever gotten from anyone before. I called, said I messed up my order, and they already knew who I was and told me exactly what to do to fix it. Every time I sent an email, got one back within minutes. They even worked it out with me and helped me find a way to get it that would allow me to get it in just a few days before I'm leaving town. They were so nice and helpful and understanding.
He was joking with me about how they seem to have all of the laptops that everyone wants. And they're restocking on the 16th as well.
Wow, I sound like an ad... But seriously, though, Portable One was amazing...
Wednesday, I get my Vaio Wednesday... wow... so excited.... -

They said:
We can do such, we are a Sony Certified TSP; cost on such will be $190 additional.
Thanks
the funny thing is they charge only 190 instead of 250 as it lists on the webpage when upgrading the sz 680. There's the info for all of you wanting to know the current options -

Tell us about your config. I also got a response to my email in 3 minutes I was pretty impressed. -
I've ordered my last 2 laptops from Portable 1 (including an SZ), and I'm about to order another one from them. They are hands down the best laptop resellers/configurators I have ever worked with. I've ordered from Dell to small boutique shops to Falcon NW, and these guys are quite simply the best IT service and support professionals I have ever had the pleasure of working with.
I always have the same experience that naryall describes with any sales or tech support emails I've sent them...I'll often get a response in minutes. Try getting THAT from Sony!! I recommend Portable 1 to anyone seriously considering the purchase of a laptop, especially the VAIOs.
And no, I don't work for them. Just an incredibly satisfied customer.Last edited by a moderator: Jan 29, 2015
