Hi everyone
Long time I have not posted on here, glad to be back![]()
I want to purchase a Sony Vaio Z anniversary edition, more specifically the SVZ1311C5E
Premium Carbon Anniversary edition
Intel®Core(TM)i7-3632QM,2.2GHz
Genuine Windows® 7 Professional
512 GB SATA Gen3 Flash SSD
8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3-SDRAM
PMD with Blu-ray Disc writer
33.2 cm LCD, 1920x1080 Premium
Wireless WAN
No Long-Life Battery
Backlight keyboard
but one problem I have at the moment is that I cant justify the price sony are charging on the uk site for 512GB hardrive
The 256GB ssd option is normally £400 and is currently discounted to £205 but the 512gb ssd is £1150 and I am finding it hard to justify this one thousand and one hundred and fifty pound for 512GB ssd GOT TO BE JOKING. I think the price quoted on their site is a mistake. why a mistake you say? because on all of their european and other sites, the 512gb vaio z option is 899 euros that is £800 uk pounds, all the other HD optoink prices match with uk except this 512GB. Also on the uk site, if you pick any other laptop, eg vaio T lets say, the price of 512GB is only £800. Sony being stupid and not even listening on this matter.
the problem is that I really need 512GB ssd, as I need to upload very large files and databases for work so If i had no choice then i would just have to bite the bullet and order the 512GB option
but was also wondering how hard would it be to upgrade the hard drive myself to 512GB if i bought the 256gb version first? how much would this cost? are they normal ssd you can buy or are they some proprietary sony made hard drives? is it even possible to purchase the hardrives for this machine? is it hard to replace the hardrive?
If i replace the hard drive could this voice the warranty by breaking a secret label?
also is the power media dock useful to have?
does anyone know how much longer the anniversary edition is going to be about? I dont plan to purchase to the end of next week? I am worried I am going to loose out on this anniversary edition because of sony silly website pricing mistake![]()
I am really sorry for so many questions, sony staff are being not helpful AT ALL in this matter, they are so arrogant, rude and unhelpful, lucky they make ace laptops or i would just buy lenovo![]()
would very much appreciate any help
thanks all
also one for old sony vaio fans, should of bought the sony vaio x505vp rather than cp![]()

As far as I know it is not possible to upgrade the SSD (unless you can find the rare custom ssd part which may be even more expensive than what you see now).
-
Buy the cheapest HDD with the laptop and then replace it with the 512 SSD.

I really would like to know whether its possible or not?
someone must know?
thanks -
From what i understand, you can't upgrade Sony special SSD drive as they have some awkward connection, but sure can with the SATA connector that comes with HDD.

You absolutely cannot replace the SSD in the SVZ13. It is entirely proprietary and not "an SSD" but a seies of small cards with NAND chips on them. There is absolutely no room inside the chassis to add anything; all you can do is use Sony parts. The only thing you can do other than be "held up" by Sony's prices would be to find someone selling a parted out Z2 and buy the SSDs. Still you need to find out what size card you need to upgrade, and it could take quite a while til you find this.
One other thing you can consider: get a high capacity, fast SD card and also a Sony "Magic Gate" card. I know you can get 128GB SD cards, though the price is probably higher per GB than SSDs and it is much slower, but those prices are falling fast as well. There are fewer options in Magic Gate cards, but by having that second slot you can add more capacity than non-Sony laptops that only have one SD slot. The point being, you can add somewhere between 128 and 192GB and use these cards for media files and other data that don't require or benefit from the speed of an SSD. It will take longer to initially write the files to them, but after that there will be no perceptible difference when, say, streaming audio or video files than if they were coming off an SSD.
