Hi!
This is really important to me and I have been working on this issue for months and CANNOT resolve it on my own with the help of the internet so far.
I have a SONY VAIO VGN-FW11E and it came with Vista.
I installed Win7 32 bit and the WLAN Connection doesnt work anymore since then ("Red X" visible over connectivity bars in the right bottom corner in task bar).
I called Sony. They are useless.
Here is what i found out:
In the Device manager the WLAN card is automatically installed as a
"Atheros AR928X Wireless Network Adapter"
The device is working properly.
However, the RED X (No connectivity) remains.
When I Open the Network Sharing Center the Red X shows as well.
Since according to this page here, I seem to have a
Intel Wireless WiFi Link 5100
built in , I went ahead and installed the driver form Intel for it.
It is a connecting managing program that shows up in the right corner in the task bar. However, it says "The is no physical wireless adapter installed". Interestingly, when you go here my model is not listed to have this intel wlan card.
I cannot figure it out!
Please help!!
I would really appreciate it.

The question remains...
113 reads, no reply. Tough one, isn“t it? -
Is there a switch or keyboard combination to turn the wireless on and off?
-
Yea, of course.
Its switched on -
