This was one of the laptops on sale in the US during Black Friday, but it worse specs. Compared to the FZ, the screen might not be as nice, and it is heavier, but for that price is a good buy.

Here is a review with the T5250: http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=4075

Wow. For a VAIO, thats good. I dont think to good to be true, because you can find some great deals out there. Im also in the US, but VAIOs are expensive here at least. Make sure the seller has a few people behind them, like C|Net seller or SHopping.com authorized. "Hacker Safe", Mcaffe, etc.

    From Sony UK site:

    X-black LCD™
The Sony X-black LCD™ is powerfully lit by two specially designed lamps rather than the usual one. The screen surface is finished with a reflection-reduction layer. This provides vivid and lifelike colours with a wide range of contrast.

Yes it is good, this is the same type of screen on the Premium FZ models.

Yeah. If you aver see them announce it like "X-Brite" or "TrueBright", you know its a good thing. They wouldnt announce something bad like "DingyBright Technology" or something, lol.

This isnt on sony.co.uk as a model? is it newer than the site, its the exact type of machine i wanted.. Also can you tell me if the keyboard as uk pound symbol on it? i would want to use it in New zealand and would want a std US keyboard, i guess they could be swapped.

i saw it as cheap as 650UK GBP damn good price.. id snap one up for myself if they had them here, but they never bring in the decent models. :( just the lowest spec NR model.. The US doesnt seem to have a model with this spec either..

How do you like it so far?

I bought one on Saturday (had to buy retail as I can't get anything delivered right now).
    Opinion so far:-
Screen : very happy with the brightness and contrast.
Keyboard : I wouldn't recommend it. It's adequate, but not for typists.
Touchpad : Maybe I need to adjust the sensitivity, but it will only recognise input if I use my whole fingerprint pad rather than just the tip.
    CPU/Memory/HD - good for the price I paid (£600).
Case : I'm actually quite impressed with the case - it's a textured surface that's easy grip and doesn't hold fingerprints. Rigidity is very good.
Weight : Adequate. Could be a bit lighter IMO.
Battery : not used long enough to judge. I note that it does take a couple of hours to charge while in use.
Vista : It's my first Vista personal machine. It's a bit of a learning curve. Spent a couple of hours trying to get the wireless working because it just doesn't give any useful error messages. Turned out that the WAP needed to advertise SSID - just refused to connect otherwise.

Overall : unlike most other vaios, this isn't overpriced. It's mid-low end, but you do get what you are paying for. My main gripe is the keyboard - it wouldn't have cost that much to use a better one and would let down someone who does a lot of typing.
