    Hi everyone,
Does anyone know what is the exact type of the cpu thermal paste used in the Vaio VPC-Z's (you know the paste put between the cpu and the cooling copper component)? It is gray and quite stiff. Is it AS5 or something more special used by SONY?
    Thanks in advance.

It's a special paste from the factory itself.
Apparently they know when you change this paste (when you take your machine into warranty-based service where the CPU is involved, hence meaning your warranty can be terminated)

It sounds like you've already tinkered around with it. If so then I'd suggest you wipe it clean with some high quality alcohol and apply some Artic Silver (or something to your preference). This is because if you just reassemble the CPU assembly as it is, the contact will not be 100%. Sony's thermal paste is more adhesive than third-party brands in my opinion. But yeah, it's up to you I guess.
