no one here has any info on how to disassemble the SR series?
-
nevermind, I took the whole thing apart myself. wifi is built onto the motherboard it seems.... so no chance of swapping it.
-
Did you happen to take photos or document the process?
-
yea it would be awesome if you posted steps and directions
-
I kind of did it in a rush, so I did not take any pics.... but let me tell you this, taking it apart is a BIG pain in the .... I would never do it again. Since I had it open, I took the opportunity to use AS5 on the CPU and GPU. Now my system idles 3 degrees cooler.
I can answer questions regarding taking it apart. -
Help! I just need to know how to remove keys/keyboard cover to clean the area... a _tiny_ amount of liquid got in there. I have googled my @$$ off, and can't find anything about how to do this. I have an SR-190.
-
I want to take my keyboard off so if you can give me instructions on how to do that, I would appreciate it. Thanks.

Guys, I am sorry but keyboard cover was the only thing I could not pull apart. I dis-assembled everything else including removing the mobo. I tried pulling off the cover from the keyboard after everything was apart but it wouldn't budge so I let it be. I dint want to bend it or crack it.

oh, I called Sony for a repair manual. They said that they don't have one! can't believe this. Pretty much everything they said was related to "Send it in". Bull. I'd rather take it apart blind, risk breaking it and having to buy a whole new one than send it to them...because for the cost of two "major" repairs, I could have just bought another. I am going to try a local repair shop, although the more I type on the sticky keys, the less sticky they become...
-
No worries. I'm sure there must be a way though. That thread with the disassembled Z-Series showed the keyboard and cover coming off so I was just hoping there would be a similar way to do it for the SR since they are similar in design.

I think I am going to take the laptop apart using my (ahem) extreme electronic and and technical know-how.
Meaning, I know enough to not break it, and no harm can come from opening the case (provided I am careful about static electricity) and having a peek around. I think I have an idea how to do it. I think the entire face of the keyboard area comes off, palm rest and all.
The local repair place quoted me a pretty reasonable price to fix it, but I don't trust that they won't get the thing in there and then jack the price up on me. They didn't seem to care what model computer I had, which made me nervous. "All models, same price"...yeah, right. I don't buy it. If this were a typical laptop keyboard, I would already know precisely how to disassemble it. I will give it a whirl, if successful, I will try to post some pictures. -
Thanks, domino_angel. Looking forward to the results. Good luck!

I'm pretty sure the wifi card is underneath the keyboard and above the motherboard. A member managed to swap out the Atheros (first models, SR129e/b) and put in an Intel wifi card. I don't know if the newer models are any different. If you want to find that topic search around my posts.

Padre3 - Two SR (290) questions: Are the CPU's upgradeable (PGA vs soldered down BGA) and are the hard drives difficult to replace?
