    Hi all,
i have a big problem with my vaio VPC-Z21C5E. After a lightning fall on my house my laptop not more power on and my warranty ended two months ago.. i have open my laptop to check power tension and found that the cards that house usb/hdmi/audio/ethernet/wifi interfaces are ko (short circuit) . so now i have only vga-out and sd-slot
there are parts replacement available for that cards ? what solutions i have?
please feel free to ask me any question, soon i will post some photo.

    Thanks,
    regards.

    Valerio.

Then I'm afraid you need a new motherboard replacement. Which will be costly and hard to find for Vaio Z. Take it to a local computer shop or electronics repair shops and see if they can fix the motherboard, explain to them what happened. You could also try removing all cards such as wifi, Bluetooth, hard drive and putting laptop together piece by piece and see if it powers on by eliminating the cause of the short. Do you smell smoke or burnt smell or see burn marks when you open pc?

thanks for reply. now i'm able to power on my vaio, i removed the card that house usb/hdmi/audio/ethernet/sim connectors. the motherboard is ok, now i arrive to the bios welcome screen.
you know the flat cable part-number ( Imageshack - vhb1.jpg) that connect the card ( ImageShack® - Online Photo and Video Hosting) to the mb?
and is possible to boot from internal sd card?
    thanks

If it is just the HDMI/USB/Ethernet board, it is the IFX-576 board.

    Have a quick look here:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/sony/603509-sony-vaio-z2-photos-teardown-7.html

There a few boards going on eBay, located in the UK and US. If you have 3G/LTE on your Z (you picture seems to show it does), you need an IFX-576 with the PCI-E connector for your 3G/LTE PCI-E card.

Hopefully it wont be too dear to fix if the rest of the components are working. Cable is FPC-221

    thank you very much.
i'm trying to discover if the problem is in card component or in the flat cable. suppose that the terminal pins of flat cable are damaged, this can prevent the laptop to power on ? or is most probably that the card is in short circuit and prevent the power on?

I would think it's probably the card though more than the cable. Did you try smelling them for any burnt smells or sins of damage such as smoke or burn marks?

    Hi next4nextel, thanks you!
yes i think something burned, this are the photos of mb and cable https://plus.google.com/photos/1018...s/5945312615282837105?authkey=CKmlnryi472miAE. the burnt parts are not a good news, right ? :) there's a chance to find a mb replacement?
    thanks a lot!
