I just got my new SR420 and I did a clean install however my buttons for the mode and settings etc at the top (external) aren't working. Anyone know which drivers or programs control that function, thanks!

    SOLVED BELOW! THANKS AGAIN!

Normally for Sony those are controlled by installing these two apps from the Sony driver page. (and order is important)
    1. Sony Shared Library
    2. Notebook Control and Utilities

    Hope you get them working.

What is the order of importance in install?

I just order me a SR430 and I will be getting it next week.

I plan to install a retail Vista.

J&SinKTO has already listed them in order.

Install the Sony Shared Library first, then the Notebook Control & Utilities. Good luck. :)

Garmin posted this for the windows7 clean install, but should work fine for vista too.

For vista use the sony video driver or mobility modded driver. For Win7, use the latest Catalyst driver from ATI.

Win7 comes with a lot of drivers, so audio driver, bluetooth, and probably card readers are just more bloated crap that goes in. HDD protection and fingerprint readers are non-essential.

All you really need is Catalyst and Sony's utilities if you have a need for its use.

Garmin's order sounds wrong. I've heard a lot of people having problems when they install the other Sony stuff before the shared library.

So just do this first two and the rest can be in any order.

I remember doing some Intel driver thing.

Sure. If you're using Vista then get a retail DVD or ISO and install it

If you're using Win7, well they're all "clean".

I did i think clean by following the semi clean method but instead of closing the launcher, I just stopped all the applications when sony tries to install their crap. I think it's the same as the clean install....

I'm now trying to figure out how to delete the sony battery checker program that they force you to install with the NOTEBOOK AND UTILITIES program. Anyone have any ideas?

I just downloaded each of the programs separately off of here. I'm not sure if there's an easy way to uninstall the battery checker.
