Hi, I just tried out the Windows 7 beta on my SR 220J/B and everything seems to work great except for the Fn+F5/F6 brightness controls.
Win7 seemed to work well out of the box, and I've installed the Alps and Synaptics drivers, along with the Upek fingerprint software (btw, I can't log in to Windows using my fingerprint, even though the log-in screen has the fingerprint icon...). I also installed "Vaio Event Service 2 (4.2.1.12090) -- All OS" from the Drivers & Software post, and the volume/mute Fn key controls work, but not the brightness.
How can I get Fn+F5/F6 to work? Thanks!

bump
any ideas? thanks! -
Same problem, SZ340.
Everything works fine, but brightness.
This is strange: before a fresh install, I made a upgrade install and the brightness worked fine (just need to turn off the UAC). Now, after a fresh install, brightness control is dead (even with UAC off).
Any ideas?

I just spent hours to get the fn keys working in my FZ with Windows 7 64 bit.
Install the required driver & utilities for this functionality in the following order.
1. SFEP (Sony firmware extension parser) driver
2. Sony shared library
3. Setting utility series
4. Vaio Event service
But I cannot get the special button S to work in my FZ with 64bit Windows 7. -
The bad news is that I didn't get the brightness keys to work on my Sony VAIO SR series with Windows 7.
The good news is that I didn't have to and the following way saves a lot of memory!
1) Don't install the shared libraries, notebook utilities, etc (they don't want to install anyway b/c they are supposed to be for Vista)
2) This saves a lot of memory!
3) The volume hotkeys already work although there is no on-screen feedback
4) For screen brightness, install this: http://www.filebuzz.com/fileinfo/53969/Desktop_Lighter.html [you will have CTRL + < and CTRL + > for brightness control!]
Hope that helps,

Oops, CORRECTION:
Unfortunately, the program I suggested to use to control screen brightness only seems to control brightness via the color palette, NOT via actual screen brightness. So I do NOT recommend using that! You can pin a shortcut to the "Power" control panel on the taskbar so you have easy access to the Win 7 brightness settings, howeverLast edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -

I get the same issue on my VGN-Z27GN. the brightness control worked at first but now it's stuck at middle brightness and can't be changed.
I have a feeling it has something to do with the speed/Stamina switch on the laptop. Possibly windows 7 can't support it yet? because it happened after I switched from speed t stamina for the first time since I installed windows 7 and then restarted.
I'm going to keep looking for a solution.. I'll post it here if I find it -
I think this is related with driver.
My stamina/speed switch works fine. My brightness control works in stamina (Intel) but not in speed (nvidia). With nvidia is stuck in full bightness. (SZ340)

Mine with Vista doenst work too

Thanks to coolguy. It works after installing all the things from your instruction on FZ11MR, Windows 7 X32. The only exception is that I installed at very first SonyUtils DLL. I'm not shure about the last thing, but when I'd installed that and all the rest in order you proposed, Fn+F5/F6 and also the button S started to work properly.

anyone else get to this to work? and how do you disable the sony battery management ?

For the VGN-SR;
see below link on the driver, just click on the link and follow the installation order and the function keys should work just fine.
VGN-SR25G : Downloads : Support : Sony Asia Pacific

Thanks to Coolguy, he saved my VPCZ1.
I had to uninstall many VAIO software to use XBMC with my iphone as a remote control and removed too much... 8-(
But now it is ok.
Thank you again!!
