I'd like to know what brands and types of displays are used in the Vaio SR.

Here's how to see it: Download PC Wizard: http://www.cpuid.com/download/pcw2008_v1871.exe
Install and run. Click on the Video icon on the toolbar. Click on monitor type.

Please post your info page here. To make a screenshot press ctrl-printscreen, go to Paint, edit, paste. File save as *.jpg. To attach it here use Go advanced while posting.

I've attached a screenshot of what the info looks like on my Asus laptop.

I see exactly what's in your screenshot - no brand information at all. Everest isn't identifying anything either. At any rate, I've had my screen replaced due to hardware problems, so according to the repair sheet, my SR129E/B should have the Toshiba Matsushi ta LTD133EWZX.

I'd rate mine pretty highly. Nicely bright and vibrant, and the best part - despite being a glossy screen - I can easily use this even with a full stream of sunlight hitting the screen.

I believe it does display manufacturer info, the code for the manufacturer of the display is 1990. On my Samsung NC10 it's CPT, which stands for Chunghwa Picture Tubes. Samsung panels would display SEC.

I used the same tool on a Macbook (late 200*) and it worked too.

    Did anyone try this?

Don't worry about installing PC Wizard. It's a small program that un installs clean and easy.

    Thanks for posting hamud.

Seems like 1990 is a code when it doesn't know the manufacturer. Too bad.

What's the difference? Shouldn't they all have at least similar quality?

I think there are different panels going around. Toshiba and Samsung and possibly more. The Toshiba is better than Samsung, with higher contrast.
Although I must say I can't remember where I read that someone has a Samsung panel.

The purpose of this thread was to collect some hard date but sofar it doesn't seem to work. It would be nice if one more person with SR could try it to confirm.

Interesting. Seems like 1990 stands for Samsung and 2002 for Toshiba. Or the other way around. Or maybe it stands for nothing.

Maybe Lattice can confirm by posting his screenshot.

Well, I already uninstalled PC Wizard, but I own Everest Ultimate and here is the screenshot for monitor info. My Toshiba screen is displaying 1990.

I don't think 1990 means anything. The SR just doesn't give information about it's display manufacturer.

Maybe the easiest way to tell would be this:
If the display strikes you as 'washed out' it's probably a Samsung display.
I don't think anyone would label the Toshiba display as washed out.

Calibration would help the Samsung display a lot.

hmm found something interesting, i just got the everest ultimate edition and it days the manufacture date of the monitor is 1990, so that mystery is solved and other info:
    monitor name Generic PnP Monitor,
    monitor ID-MS_0040,
max visible display size- 33cm x 21cm (15.4")...didnt make any senses to me on that part
    picture ratio-16:10
    Gamma-2.20

I just don't see how 1990 would be a valid date for this laptops/displays :))

It seems all the info is messed up. My SR290 is pretty nice, the Z is a little better but I think the SR displays closer to real colors (out of the box). I have both the Z and SR, and the Z will brighten up much more, but still, the SR is more than decent, I keep the brightness at 6 out of 8. For the same room/luminosity the Z would stay at about 4 or 5. Anyway, the last 2 levels are mostly used outside, in my case.

I was gonna install that software, but since the info is not accurate I skipped. Let me know if you guys find out a way to check the manufacturer of the LCD.

Even thought the info is awkward, i think you should try the software, so far i like it. It gives 5 different temps and gives many info on your laptop/desktop
