Sony VGP-PRSR1 VAIO Port Replicator for SR Series

    I want to drive a HP LP3065 30" monitor with my SR290.

This monitor has a resolution of 2560X1600, hence it only accepts a DVI-D (dual link) connection.
    1. Does any one know if the port replicator will be able to connect to a DVI-D dual link monitor? If so, can the 3470HD on a SR290 display up to that resolution?
    2. Or does the onboard HDMI port work with a HDMI to DVI-D (dual link) converter cable work? this way i can skip on the port replicator purchase?

Thanks In Advance to the Gurus!

HDMI to DVI does work but you will not have any Audio obviously.

Can you explain why the picture quality will be reduced with the HDMI -> DVI? Thanks
