I usually put my laptop into hibernation instead of shutting it down. Today when I was in school at the end of a class, I put my laptop to hibernation, and then when I got to my next class my computer was turned on by itself in the bag!! then when I put it to hibernation at the end of that class, and went to my next class, my laptop turned itself on in the bag, again!! my laptop has never done this before, today was the first time. I came home from school, got my laptop out, it was on again! I put it in hibernation, and i just sat there and wait, after a few minutes it turned itself on!!

Do you guys know what could the problem be? this never happened before.. Its quite irritating as I don't want it starting up in a bag where it can overheat and all.

    Thanks

The same happens to de SZ1VP I have here at home, no idea why. The problem, as you said, is that it gets really hot while in the bag.

It just started one day, nothing was changed.

I suppose its going to be software/BIOS related.
In a worst case - when a laptop hibernates it writes its RAM onto the harddrive, thus, after it finishes going into hibernation mode, take out the battery.
    Not ideal though...
(Don't !!! do that on Standby)

Try to contact Sony and see if they released an Update via Vaio Update.

My laptop used to wake up from hibernation mode if i had the cd-rom on and a disc in there... for some reason it would just turn on like an hour or two after i closed it and it was hibernating..

I suggest turning off the dvd drive/removing the media from it, and from any other area/like a camera card or whatever. Also, turn off the wifi.

This seemed to solve my problem...

Double check the power settings to make sure something didn't accidentally get set differently...could it be the webcam catching movement?

Check the Windows Event Viewer system log, see if there's an explanation of some kind. Also, just out of curiosity, does the same thing happen in Standby, or just hibernation?

how about wifi? push the wifi switch to the off position. not sure if this would help, but just try.

Virtual Memory is a portion of the hard drive that the system uses as RAM
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_memory

Well it's not virtual memory's problem after all..
It's a program called System Mechanic Professional's problem.. after i disabled that program, the computer stopped turning itself on when in hibernation
