I have Windows 7 x64 on my SR190. Just downloaded drivers from US support site for SR590. Everything works perfect, including all Sony software. If you need the exact drivers/software versions, let me know.

What are the minimum drivers needed to get a working install. The only drivers I use for a 32bit install are:

    1. Firmware Parser
    2. Sony Shared Library
    3. The VES module from Sony Utilities
    4. Synaptic drivers.
    5. The webcam software

    Do I need anything different?

Actually, you don't need web cam software, camera works perfectly well with default windows 7 driver.

You need Synaptics, only if you would like to scroll pages by right side of your touch pad. So I'd say it's optional.

I've made a short guide on how to install Windows 7 on VAIO SR, so I'll repost it here and I'll try to make it more precise. Here it is.

    1) Make a clean install of your OS
    2) Install all drivers
    2.1) SFEP_Driver_Sony_8.0_09Q3_O_7_8.0.1.1
2.2) SATA_Driver_Intel_Non-RAID_8.9X64_C_8.9.0.1023 (It's not critical, that you install it, but I prefer to have newer drivers by Intel, over default Windows 7 drivers, dated 2006. Activate your copy of windows only after this step, because after this step Windows will think that you've changed your hard drive and will ask you to reactivate.)
    2.3) Modem_Driver_Conexant_7.80_TF_7.80.4.50
    2.4) Memory_Card_Reader_Writer_Driver_Ricoh_MS_6.3X64_I_6.3.0.61
    2.5) Memory_Card_Reader_Writer_Driver_Ricoh_SD_6.3X64_K_6.3.2.28
2.6) Fingerprint_Sensor_Driver_Upek_1.2B_64_1.2.0.183 (Install this ONLY if you will NOT be using UPEK blahblahblah, otherwise UPEK will install the appropriate driver itself, and this driver will differ.)
2.7) Pointing_Driver_Synaptics_13F_64_13.2.6.1 (Optional, but I believe better to have it installed)
2.8) Sony HDD Protection Driver (Easy: just right click shpf.inf and choose 'Install')
2.9) Audio_Driver_Realtek_6.0BD_F_S64_6.0.1.5886 (Optional, install only if you need Realtek software to manage your High Def audio)
2.10) Bluetooth_Driver_Broadcom_6_93_8_64_6.2.0.9600 (Windows 7 has inbuilt Bluetooth drivers, but they don't support all services that you'll possibly use. For example, with default drivers I get only 4 out of 11 services working on my cell phone. So you'd better install this.)
2.11) Chipset_Driver_Intel_9.1.1B_9.1.1.1016 (You don't need it, because it will update nothing on your system, everything it should update is already up to date with windows 7. But if you like to try, go on. It will not harm anything.)
    3) Install Sony notebook utilities one by one, not all together, in that order:
    3.1) Sony shared library
    3.2) Setting Utility Series
3.3) Sony Event Service (after this point FN keys should work)
    3.4) Battery Check Utility
3.5) Mode switch (it should work!)
    3.6) VAIO Control Center
3.7) VAIO Power management (absolutely unnecessary soft, especially under Windows 7, so I didn't install it. But if you really need it, it should work, I've checked)
    3.8) VAIO Smart Network (Optional)
3.9) UPEK Protector Suite (Optional, under 7 perhaps you don't need it, but if you use Personal Safe feature, then you need it.)
    4) Check if everything is working fine (it really should)

PS I might have forgotten something, because I've made this installation, about a month ago, so don't hesitate to correct me. Good luck.

PS2 Driver installation order is not important. However, if you install it the way that I've proposed, you'll have minimal number of reboots necessary. Most of the messages like 'You absolutely need to reboot now' can just be ignored. Not true for: HDD Protection, SATA Driver, Synaptics and also for ALL Sony utilities.
