Also, will Sony have a Hi-color screen option availiable on the SR series soon?

The resolution of 1280x800 is great for a 13.3" notebook. Now that they added HDMI and a Blu-ray player, it would be a good idea to add an option for the Hi-color screen.

Seriously, every single notebook series is lacking something...

Yeah but you might want to read the specs correctly, the slightly more expensive Black version is the only one that mentions HDMI in the specs.. the rest do not. i dont know if thats a typo, but you could verywell have pre ordered a machine that doesnt have HDMI.. Check it out first before you pre order..

I think a bit further down the road, Sony may just released a 1440x900 resolution screen for the SR refreshes.

Isn't there a refresh now with the SR2 CTOs?

One thing to note is that the offering of the resolution of 1440x900 I'm talking about is just my opinion. This resolution offering may happen in the coming refresh, it may happen 2 or 3 refreshes later, or it may even not happen at all.

I understand. I find the 1280x800 resolution on the SR series just fine. What I want is a Hi-color screen option.

As for the notebook refresh - like you said, they had one right now, so it will be a while until the next refresh will come.

Isn't the HP 6930p a 14.1" notebook? I saw it before. It recieved a Laptop Magazine's Editor's Choice Award. It's a great notebook, balancing performance and mobility rather well. I heard that you could get nearly 24 hours of battery life too.

I also agree with you. 1400x900 resolution is great for notebooks with a 14"-16" screen. This resolution is just perfect!

I think 1200x800 resolution is enough for a 13.3 laptop. All it really need is the hi-color upgrade like someone mentioned.
As for the new 2xx series, I think it's great if you want/need the hdmi. There is no real update other than that. And beside, sony is really trying to clear their inventory of 190Vaios.
-They are giving 50% upgrade (I know it's old...)
-and if you enter "VAIO300SR" on checkout, they give a $300 discount, worth more than hdmi i think(<---hope this discount help your wallet)
    @duke2007, thanks for shipping price.

*the only thing I have against the 190series in the battery not fitting in perfectly like it should. And the annoyingly loud mouse pad. And sorry for the long post*

I think the battery design is fantastic and ahead of its time, the way in which it is inserted allows for virtually no way for it to fall out, it is essentially wedged in.

I feel like a Hi-Color screen would canabalize the Z's sales quite a bit. If you can get a MORE powerful computer, with better gaming performance, a better screen, thats only slightly larger for LESS money, why would people still buy the Z?

Why for a slightly smaller screen, a little lighter, and the pride of saying you bought a more expensive machine of course!

    I'm just teasing.

I am psyched about my Sony Vaio SR-290 CTO. Looks like I was right about jokingly guessing that the SR2 refresh was coming out soon. The Japanese page with the SR2 refresh specs, the out of stock CTO 190's on all options, and the little chat I had with a rep gave such a huge hint. =)

Fingers crossed that it will come early... say... Friday? haha

Yes the 24 hour life is true, upgrading to a 12 cell is an automatic 12 hour battery life!

Is this thing replacing the SR 190?

I thought it already has a HDMI port.

Yes, the SR100 models are being replaced by the SR200 series which have an HDMI port which the former lack. The higher end SR200 models will also have Blu-Ray drives.

With this new $300 off deal, Sony is really tempting me. The SR2 starts $100 lower than the SR1 meaning a total saving of $400. I saved $500 which means I'd be paying $100 for HDMI. Any ideas anyone?

EDIT: Nope, just configured and the difference is over $300. Sorry :D.

The $300 off coupon doesn't work on the SR290s. Just thought I would throw that out there.

The SR2, fyi starts for less because its base CPU is a 2.0 ghz, non-montevina cpu. To get a P8400 on the SR2, you will pay +150 from the starting price, so keep that in mind

I just got off the phone with Sony ordering my new SR, but interestingly she said the SR190 I ordered actually comes with an HDMI output. She said at one point they did not, but the CTOs they are shipping now, despite what the website says, actually have the HDMI output. Furthermore, she said the new SR290 is for the most part the same computer as the old SR190 with a few minor exceptions and a few new options available. I hope this helps others make a decision on which computer to buy.

I ordered a CTO SR190 about two weeks back with a backorder status because of the video card. After finding out there was a refresh I felt like i should have waited because I can't return CTO as I am in Canada, sucks, eh. All i am hoping for right now is that my SR190 would miraculously have an HDMI port. I hope Sony did not order old parts just to satisfy my order but instead gave me the new card. *Fingers crossed*

Hmm...I ordered my CTO on 9/14 and got it two weeks ago, and there's no HDMI port. There is a space on the side where one could go, but unless it's there just covered up, I don't have one.
