Hi
I have a sony vaio z2 (vpcz22agx)and have bought recently a couple of crucial ssd 512 GB and a couple of enclosures (zyxel and icybox) in order to build 2 external usb 3.0 SSDs.
Once connected to my desctop SSDs work pretty fine about 120-150Mb/s. I have tested by filling the whole 512 GB on both disks from my desctop. But when I connect to my sony vaio usb 3.0 and start copying - SSDs work for only a couple of minutes and then the system halts 1-2 minutes after transfer has begun until I unplug the SSD. One of the SSDs is already dead because of that.
I have updated all drivers, bios and os on vaio z2, but it still doesn't help.
Any suggestions?

I'm sorry I can't find the thread but there was one talking about the Z2's USB3 port only providing USB2 throughput. I don't know if there's ever been a diy fix or if it needs to go back to Sony or if - most likely - it's an unsolved mystery that takes a bit away from the attributes of the Z2. Others, please chime in.

Have you tried to update the SSD firmware? Seems like Crucial m4 problem. - most people got the freezing error fixed, few didn't.
Did you change in bios the mode into AHCI ?
A temp fix is running CrustalDiskInfo which will basicly increase your APM.

I unplugged all my usb devices then went to device manager, and uninstalled pretty much everything USB related - all the hubs etc. I then restarted and installed the latest drivers from the sony site - now getting massive throughput on the USB3.0 again -

Well, I updated the firmware for Crucial, it didn't help.
I was looking for an AHCI option in my BIOS but it's not there.
Running CrystalDiskInfo also didn't help - it doesn't even show the SSD connected.
I will try the solution by Teknokid. -

I tried the solution by Teknokid - it didn't work. I tried both SSDs (one with current firmware and one without firmware update) in 2 different boxings on 2 new VAIO Z2 and has exactly the same problem. Looks like SONY VAIO Z2 and CRUCIAL SSD just don't work together. Will have to switch to other SSD.

Eventually, I made it work with the following:
download the "USB 3.0: Renesas Electronics* USB 3.0 Driver"
install the driver, it would install the renesas usb3.0 host controller utility
open the utility (nusb3utl.exe) and check the box "disable usb 3.0 power management function
TADA
SSD USB 3.0 connected to vaio z2 is disappearing
