Just ordered my Sony Se and waiting on it to arrive. I'm planning to take out the optical dvd drive and stick a caddy drive in. I want to use a SSD with the caddy and leave the original hard drive in. I want to use the SSD as a boot drive so it boots up faster and use the original hard drive as programs and other stuff. So here's the nooby question. How do I set up the SSD as the boot drive?

    Thanks

Best thing to do in my opinion:

    1) Install SSD and caddy in the PC.
2)Boot a USB Windows Install drive.
3)Format HDD (backup your data first).
    4) Select SSD for install drive.
    5) Install.

If you don't want to do a clean install, look up CloneZilla. That will let you copy the whole HDD to SSD, and then boot the SSD. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS. (Windows install on HDD and SSD are done with different configs...).

Then you have your SSD for OS and HDD for the rest of what you need.
After that you can do the following (I would) :

    1)Activate TRIM.
2)Disable prefetch, disk caching, and defragmenting.
    3) Recreate a recovery partition

You can google these for more info.
    Hope I helped.

Thanks for the response. So I install W7 onto SSD and wipe my HDD(backed up). Do I partition the HDD as another drive so SSD is C: and HDD is D:? And would I have to install drivers again or should I restore it from my backup?

Yeah just do it the other way around (wipe HDD, then install W7 on SSD).
Yes, you partition to have SSD as C and HDD as D. You can move your libraries and users folders later, Google it.
And for a clean install of W7 you will need all drivers, yes. Look at the Z1 FAQ for clean install tutorials for W7 on the Z1.
