hi guys,
Urgent help required. Just joined this forum looking to find some help.
Ok so i just got my first ever laptop which is VAIO SVE1511MFXS. It comes with a windows 7 64-bit home version. However i needed a 32-bit version professional version. and since i am quite naive about all this computer stuff, so what i did was to format my C; drive and did the 32 bit professional version on it. and here is the hitch...apart from some basic drivers, it never picked some really useful drivers. I did create a windows restore point (dint know how it worked) but it never worked when i tried to revert. So now what i have is a full 3rd generation i7 system, but not really sony without the software and support i managed to get most of the drivers from internet but this VAIO doesnt look the same. I tried to get almost all the drivers from sony support website, however in some cases it just gives an error that its not properly installed (may be its just compatible with 64-bit version). There are no VAIO support tools, gate, care etc...and even in device manager, there is still a yellow marker saying an "unknown device" and i dont know what that is. I checked and found its SOny firmware extension parser but even when i install its driver, it says its not for this model !!!
All i need now is to just have my VAIO back (software wise) preferably on this 32-bit version. Anyone can guide or explain the steps to follow or do i really need to visit Sony center and will they redo the whole windows n software??? i am really desperate here...bought it with my pocket money
Thanking you all in anticipation
Regards.

Basically, this is a new model, so Sony doesn't have drivers and utilities for 32bit OS.
If you need 32bit OS, you may have to find them on your own for your laptop.
Also your laptop comes with 8GB RAM, if you down to 32bit, you won't be able to have more than 3GB running on Windows. -
thanks for your reply dear. So u mean if i take it to sony centre they wont be able to help me out? they can still make a recovery on my factory settings right ? i just need to be sure that i have the original factory settings with me even if i am not going to use them for the time being...but i dont want to miss out on something i spent all my money on ... can you guide me with some links and installations you know for 32-bit ? I have tried whole day on my own but couldn't set up most of the VAIO stuff. Got the drivers done except the firmware extension parser because it always say that its not for this model !!! and hot keys dont work even :S

If you are running Windows 32bit, all drivers must be 32bit. You can't install 64bit driver on 32bit Windows.
To make all hotkeys work, install following utilities:
Sony eSupport - SVE1511MFXS - Drivers & Software
Sony eSupport - SVE1511MFXS - Drivers & Software -
I did the above but the HotKey utilities give error that it is not for this computer model. This is the case with many other solutions which states to add Utilities DLLs and Sony firmware parser extension and stuff like that.
However, i tried this :
I just went to Control Panel > Admin Tools > Services > VAIO Event Manager
Made sure this starts up as "automatic" and is enabled. Even though it was i restarted it again. Restarted my laptop and all the hotkeys are working now...i did a lot of other things too but i guess this did the trick...did windows updates and the driver missing for unknown device (SFPE) is also installed automatically and there is no yellow sign now
Thanks again. -
Can you tell us why you need a 32 bit version of Windows 7? If it is not too resource intensive (like a 3D game), maybe you could run it in Windows 7 VirtualPC (the Windows 7 flavour of VirtualPC). You'll need the professional version or better - home premium won't do, but at least you'll have all the drivers for the host system. Install Windows 7 (pro or ultimate) 64 bit (you can get the drivers from Sony support), install VirtualPC (free download from Microsoft), then install Windows 7 32 bit on a virtual machine.

actually i have to do a project for a company. And now since i am an external, i needed to use my own notebook. However, the company's IT security policies did not allow to use a 64 bit version plus all the tools n software needed supported 32 bit version of windows 7. They didn't even allow to keep 2 windows at a time. The IT guy over there was so useless, he didn't even know how to take a backup...he just formatted it all and did the 32 bit version...so that is the story...but its fine now...everything up and running...i checked with sony support center, they said i can get 64 bit version anytime...so once i am done with this ty project, i will get the factory defaults back
