Probably a very common topic, but maybe someone has a solution.
This laptop is almost impossible to use. I set it on SILENCE, installed all the latest updates, bios and firmware.
CPU is very low, in the area of 1-5% all the time, still it's not even close to silent. The fan is just annoying, it's like whirring.
When you start surfing the web or doing practically anything it will become worse. The people in the room already start to get annoyed. This laptop is one year old, in the beginning it was slightly better.
Did someone from SONY test this laptop before releasing? How can this be called SILENCE?
Does anyone knows of any solution for this?
Thanks

I had a similar problem and I fixed it by opening up the laptop, taking the fan apart, cleaning and greasing the shaft and putting everything back together. This ususally involves changing the thermal paste as well, so be prepared for that as well. I have to do this every 6 months or so because I'm too cheap to buy a new fan.
This link is for the VPCZ1, but you'll get a lot of pointers there.

Was this laptop like this when it was brand new? If so, then you might have a fan with a chipped blade. If not, then there might be a clump of dust sitting on one or more of the fan blades. When you clean the fan, be gentle - the blades are brittle plastic. -
Thanks, is there any software solution for this?
I mean it's loud on extremely low CPU loads. The fan shouldn't be working at all. Otherwise this "SILENCE" mode is a joke or something..
Also, is it covered by the warranty? -
Bump!
SVP132A1CM disturbing noise on SILENCE. Any solution?
