For those of you who have done a CTO SVZ with the PMD, does the stripe at the back of the dock match your laptop's black stripe? I know when the PMD first came out, all black PMDs have the silver trim at the rear. But I heard that on the 15th anniversary Zs with black trim that the PMD will match. The only images I can find of the PMD are stock photos, but it appears that if you buy the accessory separately, they're all black with silver stripes.

Alternatively, what's the backwards compatibility between an SVZ with a Z2 dock or a Z2 using an SVZ dock?

Does the SVZ CTO in gold come with a black PMD if the option is selected? I know on older Z2 and Z3 models they're matching, but I also heard that for this SVZ generation, they're all black.

    Thanks!

The color of the PMD matches the laptop. The silver and premium (Glossy) carbon black versions have black trim on the back of the laptop and PMD. The premium carbon black (Glossy) is the only one that has 15th year anniversary engraved. The others read Sony.

All PMDs are the same. (Z21,22,23,31).

Is there a part number differentiation between the black PMD with silver trim and black PMD with black trim? All I can find is the PRZ20A/B for the blu ray burner on Sony's website that you can buy as an extra/ a la cart PMD but those are black with silver trim. Basically trying to determine if I can find an all black PMD on the market or if I'll only be able to get it by ordering it with the computer.

Guess the graphics card numbering differentiation is all for marketing if all the hardware/ software is the same.
Guess they don't make the gold docks anymore?

    Thanks!

The part number is the same. If you HAVE to have it matching, unfortunately overpaying Sony is the only way to get the black trimmed PMD. There have been a bunch of silver trimmed PMDs on eBay for half the cost. If its just going to be jammed in the corner of your desk with monitors hooked up at all times, you might not ever notice the trim anyways.

haha That's what I figured- that I'd just have to overpay to get the stupid matching plastic strip. I've seen them on eBay (regular silver trimmed ones) for about $200 or so which is quite a bit less than what Sony's charging on the CTO and a lot less than the Sony store. Guess I'm used to overpaying Sony so I may just buy mine with the computer.

Which PMD did you get? From the CTO or otherwise?

Also when did you get your SVZ? Your configuration looks to be the exact same that I want to get. Any comments overall? Did you get fresh start as well?
