Got my SVZ series (15th anniversary edition) 2 years ago and most of the time just use solely the unit itself instead of hooking it to its BD writer.

Few days ago I tried hooking it to the writer, then power on and found out the screen is dead. The unit powered well but nothing showed on the screen. Minutes after the fan started to make very loud noise as if the unit is heavily loaded. Detached the BD writer still got the same result

Forced to turn off the unit by pressing the power button for 4 sec; and tried several methods e.g. remove batt and detach AC input followed by pressing the power button for 30se...etc but no luck so far. Wondering if it is the loosening of ram, a dead GPU or what...

Anyone experienced the same issue? Should I just send the unit it for service (its warranty expires though)

    BR,

Sounds like the video chip has detached from the board. I was pleased with Lance in Georgia. He has a long video on YouTube. His video chip reflows have lasted over two years. When you hear him, he sounds like a southern gentleman. Don't remember more

This laptop had external gpu and has only Intel graphics on board. Reflow won't help.

Could be trying to drive a display that isn't there. Try connecting an external monitor.
