After a horrible upgrading experience to WIN 8, still problems!

    1. Assist, Vaio and most of Fn buttons not working
    also
    2. There is an unknown device in the device manager. In its properties it says "Intel(R) HM77 Express Chipset LPC Controller - 1E57"

    Has anyone resolved those problems?

Don't upgrade; do a clean install instead. The Windows 7 drivers from the Sony support site still work, and there are plenty of guides on this forum that will hold your hand every step of the way.

With only those two problems left, I dont want to go through the clean install procedure again.
I am trying to search for guides on thses specific problems but I'm not having any luck so far.
    Thanks anyway

For Fn keys to work, you have to install SEFP (both executable and drivers), and VAIO Control center.

You are so right and on time as the VAIO Controll Center you mention, just appeared on my SVZ1311C5E's WIN8 downloads ! Here it is VAIO Control Center(win8upgVer) updater - 6.0.5.10150 64 bits 64.24 Mb 18/12/2012. It has the ''Also Available through VAIO Update'' sign next to it, but no wonder, my VAIO update 6.0 for WIN8 does not show it ...... yet anyway.
Please help me with the SFEP: what do you mean by ''both t executable and drivers' I need two downloads? . There is no SFEP download in my WIN8 downloads page and only one Sony Firmware Extension Parser Device 64 bits 1.35 Mb 18/04/2012 SONY, Version 8.0.2.3 for Microsoft® Windows® 7, which is in the WIN7 Preinstalled drivers section. Should I install this in WIN7 compatibility mode or wait for SONY to come up with an upgrade for WIN8 ...IF and WHEN they do?

Yo can install this one :)
I installed Windows 8 when there were no drivers for SVZ13C5E (I have the same model as you).

Both are in Windows 7 section, but work well with 8.

These 2 files are for the same things, but they are different. One is an executable you should install by double clicking on it.
The other one, you have to go in device manager from Windows panel settings, and then, you should see some unknown devices at the top.

So, in the second SEFP package, you should see some .inf files. Right click on an unknown device (I had 2 when I installed Windows 8, so, I didn't know what whas the good one), and then, update driver. Enter the path to the INF file in the wizard, and it should install SEFP Device. If Windows tells you it couldn't install the drivers, try with the other unknow device (assuming of course you have more than 1 unknown device).

Reboot, and it should be good.

I hope I was clear, ask me if you have any problems :)

X3n0n you are awesome!!!! Problems resolved ! It is a relief to have the SVZ back to normal !!!! I've had Vaios for more than I can remember and would not change them for anything else, but the truth is SONY's support has always been way behind the product's standard.
Your French site has the SFEP download whereas the UK one does not (!) and we are talking about the very same model !!!
    Again thanks a million!!!!
