just talked to him through the cellie recently. Said the package finally started shipping through Tennessee and i will get it by tomorrow. I'm one who is very nice and patient so if he says delivery will be 1 day longer i might as well wait it out. I really was gona cancell on the spot today but if he really was trying to make more excuses to delay, why wouldn't he say a longer time line like a week more for delivery but instead said it'll be delivery by tomorrow or the day after. i really hope im not being jerk around. About to email him that if i dont get it by wednesday this week, i don't care if the unit is a city away from delivery or whatever, ima demand a refund, lines been drawn.

hope you will get you laptop, nanomelol. good luck.

well, no luck for me after all these waiting. Chris claimed he brought a TZ for me personally from the US couple weeks ago and Fedexed it himself, yet I never got a tracking #. I mean, come on, it's just common sense that you will get a tracking # at the time you ship the package.

Even today when I called him to cancel my order, he said he was going to give me a tracking # in the evening, but wahtever, since I was going to cancel the order anyways. He made it sound like it was my loss. Obviousely, he "forgot" that he already promised I'd get a tracking # or the laptop next day countless times .

I can't believe this guy. He must think everyone is really stupid to believe all the crap he put up.

Bottom line, Chris has a really fishy way of doing business and he is good at acting. some of his customers seem happy with the purchase. But I'm definetly among the pissed off ones. not only my time was wasted, but I feel being fooled.

PS: None of the authorized Canadian Sony resellers never have the models better than the TZ160. So I dont know where he got his source from.

Guys there's plenty of other places. You just have to be patient and look around, I found a shop locally selling a brand new tz130n for $1400 with a free 2gb upgrade and grabbed it. Months of waiting for a TZ is crazy.

It's been stated here again and again that he gets units from a big wholesaler, Ingram, and then resells them. Ingram instructs SonyStyle to drop-ship them to Chris' customers directly. Chris does not hold physical inventory, he's a virtual corporation. He resells at a very thin profit so he needs to float your money to grow the business.

You get it cheaper than SonyStyle sells it for, and he makes a little money, is that not fair?

But let me add that he needs to change his business practices by being more honest with customers.

So, let's have a current forum member and customer contact Chris and alert him of this thread. And let's tell him that we would like his practices to change or we'll send an e-mail to eBay. :)

That's a wonderful idea. I think his business practices are unethical, and he should either change them, or be made to change them.

I have a theory about this guy. For a long time it bothered me why a person who did eventually either ship the goods or refund money would jerk people around so much. What good does it do him? Why go through all that hassle?

Then it occurred to me that if he sells 10 notebooks and manages to keep the money for two months before shipping, by inventing all kinds of "the dog ate my homework" excuses for why the goods have not been shipped, he's got an interest-free loan for $30,000. If he can keep a flow of business going on this basis, then he's got $30k, $50k, or even more in his pocket which never needs to be paid back. That's because he pays for the orders he finally ships today with money he gets from new customers, then jerks them around for two months, and so on, down the line. Sort of like a pyramid scheme.

Customers who are patient get jerked around for three, four, even six (!) months -- see this guy's story:

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hey guys, hope someone still reads this thread...you were talking about Chris Colpit aka Colpic on e-bay and I must mention my negative experience with this seller. I placed my order for a Sony Vaio AR-590E on July 27th and never got my laptop. I've paid him almost 3.000 USD within 5 minutes from my order and it all seemed to be going ok. Then he started to claim all sort of misfortunes, such as the package was lost somewhere and he can't track it, then he eventually sent it by some friend to Europe (I'm from Romania), then this friend lost it again, then he tried to deliver it, but the postal officers and all FedEx are morons and of course they didn't deliver it. Finally, on December 23rd I've got a FedEx tracking number from him. I was so relieved... But surprise! Since December 24th the status is "Package data transmitted to FedEx"... It was supposed to arrive to me on January the 3rd, but no sir. I wrote to him asking for a refund, ad all i've got from him is "Holy crap man. It was taken to fedex exactly when I said it was. I'll drive there after work and find out what gives...". This was on January 7th. Today is the 10th of January. I've checked with FedEx Romania and they told me the package never left, according to their informations. So, can anyone tell how may I pull this through? Do you have a phone number, a personal email adress from him or something else so I can get directly in contact with him? I'm sick and tired of being fooled... Thanks!"

People keep coming to him because he sells for unbeatable prices. I went to him myself for the same reason -- greed I guess -- although I had read some warnings about him.

If the music ever stops and he stops getting new orders, you guys will get screwed. I feel lucky I got my money back after two months of absolutely absurdly bogus excuses and empty promises (for the record, there is no way in hell that one vendor can have every single package lost in transmission, stuck in customs, etc., etc. -- the statistical rate of lost packages for the Canadian Post Office is probably 0.001% -- so don't believe this bullsh*t).

So I would not give this guy money. If you're willing to wait for possibly a long time to get a great price, I would insist on putting the money in E-Bay escrow or have him ship COD or protect myself some other way.

I'm still waiting for my notebook that I ordered from Chris Colpitts 2 months ago.

So far I've had these exuses:

    - unit sent out, but FedEx damaged it, I'm sending a new one
    - holidays
    - bad weather, cant drive to the FedEx office to send it
    - family tragedy
    - sent it, but FedEx returned it because some special customs docs were required
    - still looking into the docs situation
    - my sister sent it, you will have it in a few days. i'm on a business trip, will send tracking # when i get back
    - *called him on the cell* I'm out right now, will send tracking number when i get back

I'll give it one more day and then demand refund/ file PayPal claim/ Report to eBay

Wait another day, BS I would be on the phone with Paypal over a month ago.
All this BS to save a few bucks, not worth it sometimes.
Anytime it involves large sum of money I would go with a legit shop.
Hope you get your money or product soon, I would not take any more excuses and leave a negitive feedback.

Geez how many "family tragedies" can this guy have?

For me his wife's grandma passed away, he missed thanks giving, went on a business trip, lost it in transit, lost it again, went overseas to pick it up again, fedex "didnt send it" and finally it came... 3 months later...

I'm from Ukraine, so I have very limited options where I can get the latest notebook from. Most companies simply won't ship it here. I didnt go for it because it was cheap, but because Chris had it in stock (supposedly) and was willing to ship it to me.

If this guy doesn't follow thru tommorow I will go out of my way to make his life miserable.

I will call my bank to do a chargeback ($4k), contact paypal, contact ebay, file a claim with FBI cybercrime unit http://www.cybercrime.gov and make a website about him, posting all the info so when people search his name in Google they will know what a shady dealer he is.

I aslo have good friends in Canada who can visit him in person for a chat.

I became another victim by Chris.
I am very honest and sensitive person and throughout communication with him, I was polite and just asking the delivery date. Then he stated harassing and threatening me, calling I am rude also!! I am the customer here and paid $3,000. I have the exact story. He never gave me tracking, just saying he can see it on his PO screen. I asked many time that does not mean he shipped the item so I need a proof. I asked him to attach his PO screen shot then he called me rude.
I have a funny story. I asked him to ship via UPS and he told me he shipped with them. My item was supposed to arrive last week but did not happen. Now yesterday he told me that my item is in Memphis, TN with FedEx. Can anybody explain how he could change the carrier after being shipped, if he is honest?
He tells me he has nothing to hide but obviously not.
I wasted whole this time and also psychologically hurt. I have been fair and polite whole this time but what he send me the last time, it was nasty and not someone dealing with professional manner.
Is anyone knows more about what we can do to stop his dishonest business since he is breaking the ebay Seller Non-Performance Policy?
He has the best price most of the time, but we don't want more people to suffer from him. Not like other people, he has never apologized to me about shipping delay. Just harassing me. :(

    Hi,

It is my first time on this board. But I've to thank you all, because I ordered the new vaio VGN-SZ791N/X from Chris. Seeing all your bad experience with this guy, I cancelled the order.
Finally, after several (rude) calls and emails, Chris sent the money back.
He promised me that I will get this model, with french keyboard and french vista in 5 weeks but after 10 days still nothing was done...

Now, I would like to know how to get this model for nearly the same price (or a little more), and with the french keyboard if possible. I've to find a seller which is able to send to France.

ps: I'm sorry for my bad english, as you understood, I'm French.

He refund my money right away because I file a dispute. But still, he has no apology for the delay and still calling me I am rude. Ebay want to see my communication with him. There must be a way to stop his dishonest business. Obviously, he keeps doing this for a long time and he will if we don't do anything. Ebay or PayPal must investigate deep inside, but the problem is once the money is refunded, they just close the dispute and I think that is why he can keep selling items. However, how he manage his business is not a business. He is breaking the ebay policy and I am sure if we ask Internet Crime Complaint Center http://www.ic3.gov/ can do something. Ebay sent this link to me. All the victims like us should report our story to this center and I guess they will do proper actions if they receive many complaints about the same guy.
    Any other suggestions?

    Hello World,

I am currently working with Chris. I ordered an AR790U/B Jan 21st. I was a made little suspicious when he told me that his warehouse had three in stock because when I called Sony they said that none had actually been produced or shipped yet. On his side, this could be on the up and up as they're produced in Canada and not the US.

Nevertheless, he has answered every email and phone call immediately and has made himself availablbe to me at every turn. In the last email, he told me the laptop would be delivered by 5 PM tomorrow. I've decided I will give him until Friday of this week before dissolving the transaction entirely.

I pray that he is simply a victim of poor shipping services and customs regulations, but I won't take a position until Friday at 5 PM.

Richs, i bet u 10$ paypal that u won't get it by friday. Chances are your laptop won't even have been shipped out by then yet. ull just get another excuse from him to keep you on the fish hook. But in the mean time of waiting, call him up and tell him to begin uploading your money back to paypal. If by friday at 5pm and not a second later, the delivery guy doesn't ring ur doorbell, call him up and tell him to transfer your money imediately or ull give ebay a call.

Cuz i sure know he will delay returning ur money for as long as u let him. Until u actually threaten him.

    Hello

To RichS, I hope you will get your laptop because I ordered the same but never arrived and canceled my order. My story was the same kind. His promised delivery date had been changed so many times and at the end, no laptop. I filed the dispute and I got my refund right away. Then I ordered it from Portableone.com and they are night and day. I received it very next day, less than 24 hours. Their service is amazing, especially Ivan. If you cannot get it from Chris, which I assume it will likely, send e-mail to Ivan and order it from him. He knows victims of Chris and he will help you. You might pay a little extra but not much and certainly you get it on time!!

I just checked his web site. I cannot believe he is getting away with his total scam business. I will post my story too. What he does is completely against the law and he will have to pay the big fine or possibly go to jail. So far, he could get away with this business because ebay buyers are afraid to get negative feedback from him. However, there is no need to worry. If you tell the truth like I did to ebay, they will help you and Chris cannot give you any negative comments. He also gets away because ebay cannot track what is going on after the transaction unless all the victims report their stories.
What we can do here is write all our stories possibly with dates. I am sure some of our stories overlaps and he told the different story to excuse himself.
At first he seems nice, but he is not actually. He harassed me and threated me after I demanded my tracking to confirm my package with UPS or FedEx.
Don't be fooled by his lies and be wise. What he is telling about the delivery and shipment, there is no proof of what he is saying. And when you confront him about the proof, he loses mister nice guy because he knows you are smarter than him and he cannot fool you .
Guys, we have to stand up and report his misconduct.
And nonamelol is right. Behind all our frustration and anxious waiting laptops, he is making money.

Well, at the moment (from 29 Jan 2008 for 2 weeks), he is meant to be in Australia, sending me my laptop from Sydney.

It'll be interesting to see if I get my money back from him, or from the credit card company.

Really, he sells about 35 laptops a month, and always keeps about 2 months worth of money.... 70*2500=$175,000 in the bank. Even if he invests it and gets 8% return, that's only $14,000 per year. All the emails and hassle for a measly 14k per year? Geez. This must be a kid.

I just contacted ebay customer support and she said that Chris has been flagged for fraud. I just checked his selling items on ebay and nothing shows up. I guess ebay suspend his seller status or something.
But this should not the end. He has to pay the price of his act.
He played shipping excuses games with so many ebay buyers and they were breaking a law. Justice need to be forced here.

My relative is a lawyer and she said sometimes shipment delay can happen, but not like this. Obviously he used this strategy to make money and his excuses are just pure lies. Otherwise, what a coincident that he always has same excuses to so customers. I am sure also UPS, USPS or FedEx will be very upset if they hear his story that these carriers lose so many expensive laptops all the time.
I contacted FedEx Canada and they said about the US customs as follow; If all the customs paperwork is completed correctly, there should be no
    delays at customs.
He broke the law and he is a cyber criminal.

pretty smart kid then if he is.

Cuz imagine he gets 35 orders a month. each laptop is atleast 2500.
2500x35 thats 87,500 dollars in bank. he puts the collective money into the bank and make the interests off of 87,500$. He excuse his ways through months on end giving him more time to make more money off of the bank's interests. Eventually he'll play u for as long as u can stand and demand ur money back. But by then he would have made a large sum of cash from the collective ebayers money and don't mind returning that insignifant 2500 after he made tons of money from it.

thats one way he could be scamming people. the scam is to get them to loan their money when they think their buying something.

    Richs,

You should have no problem if you paid him via PayPal with credit card in the past 90 days. Colpic will offer refund as he knows that you are protected and the credit card company will be going after him. He tried to refund me via PayPal, however I am insisting a Bank Draft.

I'm not sure if that's the case. I haven't heard from him since the 29 Jan. I threatened him with a credit card claim several times, have not heard anything, and have gone ahead and filed both a redita card and paypal claim.

I am very sure. My credit card company assured me I will get my money back for sure. That was the reason Chris refunded me via PayPal, immediately, without even telling me first. I still have time, till the end of the month to decide to pick it up ... I want to explore the greatest impact can confer to this guy. My credit cards are "Gold" and "Platinum" categories, but I was told it makes no difference ... it applies to all (base on Canadian information) ... 90 days protected. Hang on to your case #, you will get your back if you have notified them within 90 days of your transaction (free from fees).
