After feeding all 9 system restore disks to return my SZ back to factory settings...it tells me:

"Error 400 occurred when restoring the system. Cannot Continue. Click OK to restart from Recovery Disk 1 adn select "Restore Complete System" to perform a complete system recovery."

When I insert Disk one, it runs again, but gives me the same message after about a minute, telling me to do the exact same thing.

    :(
    Any advice??

hmm...looks like one of your discs may be corrupt...or a file on one of them is corrupt. Is this on a totally new HDD? If you haven't formatted the ENTIRE hard drive...try booting up and hitting F10 when the VAIO logo appears. This boots it into VAIO recovery mode...where you can do everything witout the CDs. If you did reformat the entire drive (and lost the recovery partition) you'll have to see if you can get recovery media from Sony.
