Nobody has yet to mention or complain about the biometric finger print reader on the new sz. I'm assuming it works ok. Seems like a cool feature. Any opinions?
-
I only used it to log onto Windows and it did it's job just fine.
-
Yeah, it works pretty well. I've tried other USB devices and been unhappy with them for the most part.
-
Works just fine. I need to tinker with the program a bit but no complaints at all.

i read a while ago...but nothing was confirmed that it was maybe possible to use the sensor as a scroll function for the mouse....is this true?
(sorry if this has already been answered) -
Yes it's true. I wasn't able to get the scroll to work even thought using the test utilty it works correctly. The trick to use it is to slide your finger slowly but not too slow and you'll get the hang of it. So far I got my SZ160 setup 2 users account and assign fingerprint to each account. At the XP welcome screen it will go into appropriate account with the right fingerprint. Also it has a fingerprint protected mydocument folder - works great. Hope this helps.

What finger did you guys use? The only one I can get to work consistantly is my thumb.

I have a question - what happens if you put any documents in the "My Safe" folder, and then your computer dies? Can these files be accessed from another computer if you swap the hard drive into that machine, or perhaps from a HDD USB adapter? I ask because I've had a VERY bad experience losing YEARS of documents to a proprietary backup system that another manufacturer featured (ahem, IBM... cough) that could not be accessed even from another computer that was the SAME MAKE AND MODEL.

My fingerprint scanner is working perfectly as a scroll wheel. You need to hit the funciton and scroll lock key to turn off the fingerprint reader and start the scroll funtion. You can change what button to start it so if you just wanted to hit F1 to switch between the two you can. It is in the settings menu to change it.

I didnt know it could be used as a scroll feature! That's a pleasant plus I guess. I have used mine and it works great! I have it set to both my index fingers and both my thumbs (just in case I lose one)! I also save everything on my portable harddrive (which is what I would recommend to anyone else worried about losing any information). Nothings perfect so you better have your important files stashed away somewhere! Otherwise I save everything in a certain file and it is very easy to use.

Well the touchpad has the scroll function already though, guys. On the right side of it.
-
well im glad the sensor is working good...is it only my documents u can safeguard with the fingerprint feature or any foilder?
but better news yet its already built into the touch pad - i was curious because where i read this before i am sure they said the touchpad had no such feature and the biometric sensor was meant to be used as a scroller.
thanks guys -
there was a thread from our pal from India about how to setup (complete guide with pics) fingerprint function., but i could not find it.. could someone give a link?

have tried to register user/password for couple of webpages ... it is quite convenient .. i think i can be spoiled with this and for quite a while, i can forgot my own original password ..
.. It seems all the registered webpages can be export if you need to perform fingerprint user configuration backup or transfer.
However, i am still skeptical with the security on this ... how if hacker able to break into my system and steal the password bank .. may not be a good idea to store important password such as internet banking, credit card etc ..
It seems reliable in term of swapping the finger .. i can make use all of my 10 fingers with low fail rate .. -

I used the fingerprint scanner extensively on my SZ360 ---- until I had to re-install the OS, and then decided it was more trouble that it was worth...... then my laptop got stolen, and I wished I had continued to use the scanner for at least log-in to windows.
I am currently using it only for windows log-in on my SZ780N5, and will continue to do so. In response to an above question, I only really use my right index finger and right middle finger. I should probably register more, just in case my fingertips get horribly scarred. -
used it to logon xp
use ff for passwords
eventually disabled it to save battery -
are you referring to BIOS fingerprint logon when you face the issue ?
I was thinking that activating the BIOS fingerprint/windows logon fingerprint will not completely guard your laptop/data when it is stolen ... or perhaps i was wrong ... -
if u have bios fingerprint, and if u reinstall OS.....still ur bios fingerprint data wont get erased
-
Am I the only one who doesn't use it at all?
-
Mines doesn't work anymore, or at all.
Don't know what happened to it.
