Currently, my SZ 210pb has a T2300E processor. Its package type is, according to CPU-Z, is Socket 479 mPGA. So, I have a question.

If I upgrade my CPU to an higher end Core Duo, do I have to use the same package type only? So, do I have to use only Socket 479 mPGA CPU?

I am asking this, because I plan to upgrade to Intel® Core™ Duo T2600 (sSpec # is SL8VN), the package type of which is Socket 478 pPGA. This is the only T2600 mobile CPU. I checked Intel, and they do not have any Socket 479 mPGA T2600. As far as I know, the higher end SZ 2XX series uses T2600.

Is this T2600 compatible with my vaio SZ? Does Socket 478 pPGA T2600 fit my vaio, although it has currently Socket 479 mPGA T2300E? Any advice will be appreciated.

To answer your question, yes you will be able to upgrade to a T2600. The actual number of pins your processor and T2600 uses, is 478. For some reason, some prgrams will report this as 479. It is often quite confusing. The older Pentium M's also used 478 Pins, but the pin configration was very slightly different, so they are incompatible with Core Duo/Core 2 Duo sockets.
