I recently received my Vaio SZ440 and, if there was any doubt, I am in love! I am so glad I went with the SZ and I have had no problems whatsoever, even with Vista (knock on wood). Any questions about it, please let me know because I would love to talk it up.

Now, I need a way to protect my new baby. I would prefer a messenger style bag and I am going to be taking it to grad school every day to take notes. The only other things I am going to be carrying are my cell phone, ipod, a spiral notebook (for back up), a water bottle, and a few pens. I have been looking at the Timbuk2 Laptop messenger and Crumpler bags. Have any other vaio owners had experience with these bags or have suggestions for a functional, yet attractive bags?
    Thanks for your help!

I know you're looking for a messenger bag, but I'm going to suggest a backpack instead. I have a North Face Recon backpack and I love it. Easy to carry and a perfect fit for my Vaio S260. It has a pouch for the notebook that holds it suspended in the backpack so I feel like its protected.

I have a North Face backpack that I have been using for the past year (my old one lasted me 5 years, and I gave it to a friend because I wanted a new one). I have thought about using it and just getting a laptop sleeve.

    Thanks for the suggestion.

I use the Eagle Creek Convertabrief myself. Sometimes it's a messenger, and sometimes it's a backpack. Has a couple well chosen pockets and is super light. No point in getting a light computer if you just put it inside a heavy bag. It's great for traveling too since it even has one of those little flaps that slides over your other luggage handle to roll it around.

I just finished grad school myself. My SZ was my gift to myself for surviving it. May some Higher Power keep you sane through it all.... :)

No to hijack your thread or anything, but what kind of battery life do you get with your battery?

For battery life, I've only had it for 2 days now, and I haven't had a chance to test it out. I will this weekend though and I will get back to you.

Coach! Geez, I'm not made of money! I am looking to spend no more than $150.

I know it is expensive but it matches the SZ very nicely. Another good one for daily use and protection is
    http://www.thinktankphoto.com/ttp_product_AI15_17.php

It is more of a sleeve but I like it for trips to Starbucks or when traveling light. To carry all your school supplies for $150 you might just walk into Micro Center or Best Buy and try some of the Targus bags. You can actually get a Coach bag for about $300 at an outlet mall.

    Good luck!

I came across this case at BestBuy the other day, it's called the Targus SlipCase. It's actually a neoprene sleeve with handles, attachable strap and an outside pocket. I brought it home and it's great! Even though it says it's for a 15" laptop I find it holds the SZ with its extended battery with just a little room to spare on the sides. It's perfect for bringing the SZ to places like Starbucks, Barnes & Noble etc. and I like its understated look. And I loved the price!

I use the Northface Surge backpack. I also keep my SZ in a sleeve, and it fits like a glove in my Surge. Lots of room for other stuff if you want to carry it all.

I just ditched my 6 lb Timbuk2 metro for the Booq Mamba S (closeout)for $55.
It fits the SZ perfect, plus some room for a notebook , pens, ipod, cd's, phone my garage door opener etc...

It's a beautiful bag, made well and it looks really good.
I loved my Timbuk2 but it was getting to heavy, it weighed more than my SZ.

That is a really nice bag. Looked for something similiar for long..

I bought myself two Samsonite bags and they are indeed lovely, although I'm looking for a change. I'm on lookout for something I really would fall for directly. On the other hand, it needs to have alot of space for peripheals because I'm doing consulting and stuff in different areas of the computing buisiness. Safety is also a very big concern.

I have a very similiar bag to this, in green (very eye-catching)
    http://www.ebags.co.uk/samsonite/pr...ckpack/product_detail/index.cfm?modelid=64372
and this one in black (looks to ordinary thou a very competent bag on the inside)
    http://www.ebags.co.uk/samsonite/pro_dlx_laptop_messenger_bag/product_detail/index.cfm?modelid=59748

Great bags, but still not "there" as I want them.

Are all the Timbuk2 bags that heavy? Where do you find out the weights?

Sorry, the bag weights a bit less by it self, but I had the sleeve and the heavy strap along with a few other gadgets for the bag. I used our scale at work for packages. I believe this years model are a bit lighter due to the fact they did not line the inside with the water proof Grey liner.

How about Crumpler Bags? Has anyone used those? They have good reviews on ebags, but I trust y'all more. :)
