    Hey guys,

At the moment, I am contemplating between these 2 laptops. I've done a lot of research, and even tried to search for old threads on SZ/FZ vs. T61p, but pretty outdated...

So, hopefully you guys can provide me with some insight? I've read a lot of reviews for both brands, and they both seem to be excellent laptops, but also, have their downsides, for example the t61p shows some leakage in the screen as well as dimmer quality in comparison to the sz/fz.

Now I just want to hear your opinions on both laptops, suggestions, anything that will give be a better insight on which I should purchase? Price isn't a big deal, performance and life span is a must... and I guess some portability, although not a whole lot.

    Thanks!

These are all very different notebooks. The SZ is for power in a portable form, FZ is a multimedia notebook, and the Thinkpad is a professional notebook with workstation graphics. What do you need in a notebook? You should figure out what is most important to you. I recommend posting in the What Notebook Should I Buy? forum and filling out a FAQ.

Those notebooks aren't very comparable, so fill out the FAQ first.

And a matte screen will not be as bright as a glossy one, so no need of comparison here.

That's not necessarily true. The Thinkpads don't have very bright sceens, but the Macbook Pro matte screen is very bright.

The Macbook Pro has a LED backlit or you forgot that fact?

No, I realize that. You made a broad statement that matte screens are not as bright as glossy screens. That is not always the case.

It's always the case as long as you make an apples-to-apples-comparison... sorry, the pears don't count here. :p

Not to mention that it was quite clear why I made that statement...

Okay, here's a better example then.

Erm, what now? How your post is related to this thread?

And go and do some research about the 17" WUXGA matte screens and don't be surprised when you find out that there are screens marketed as matte, but are actually semi-glossy.... and that's long story.

Also, I would not take someone's words as a gospel...

And then again, it's quite obvious that my statement was related to that above...

Macbook Pro is still very bright even without LED screen like the older models.

For the record, there are matte screens with 500 nit brightness (vs. the typical 150-200 or 300) but then again that's a different story.
