    Hello

I have a Sony SZ340 and I've had a lot of problems with the reader getting good reads. I've read all the other posts related to this and followed their directions to go slow, place my finger on the reader for a moment then swipe, etc.. cleaning the glass, I even selected the option to allow low quality reads and it still didnt work.

It takes numerous attempts to register or recognize my prints.

***I also bought the HP nc6400 and the fingerprint reader works amazingly well, it has NEVER not recognized my print. This leads me to believe that either my Sony is defective or the Sony is extremely sensitive.

Please advise. Anyone else have this much trouble with the reader?

    Thanks!

Yes I have this much trouble also. Usually my success rate is around 20% or so. Sometimes worse. I found it depends if you washed your hands, fingers are dry or wet, etc etc... so many variables.

The SZ's fingerprint reader is placed in an spot that makes it hard to get a good reading. In my experience with my BX I get good reads 90-95% of the time, but the SZ usually requires another swipe or two, and I think it has to do with how it's placed in that little divot on below the mouse pad.

The finger should be parallel to the scanner upon placement.
Start with the root of your tip, then roll your finger over it in one swift and complete motion.

You will get better read if your finger is moist. So, blow some air into your finger before swiping.

It sounds like from what everyone is saying is that my scanner is working and not defective. I agree that if my finger is moist, it works much better.

As I mentioned, its too bad that my HP works flawlessly while the Sony is terrible. It's not worth using in my opinion. Thanks for the replies.

FYI: I think I'm going to be returning the Sony (this is one of many reasons) and keeping my Hp nc6400. I posted my comparison of the two models in the "help me decide forum".

Successful swipes take some getting used to ---- I used to have problems with mine, but now I get successful readings 90% of the time.
