    I might be buying a 2nd hand SZ, but it has no battery.

    I know it isn't recommended to buy a generic battery, but what have you guys experienced? What seems like the best generic battery? Is it worth the extra savings??

    Define 'generic' lol. Sometimes those are literally the same battery cells inside the generic battery as are in the real thing. The difference comes from what they leave out of generics, like battery health monitoring chips in the pack. And they can also stiff you on the battery itself, using tricks to make it appear to be the right charge and everything to the system while in truth it has the staying power of a AAA.... They recommend not using generics because it can really be a crapshoot!

    But if you are getting a pack rated for your laptop, with the right Watt-Hour, voltage, and amperage rating, it's really okay to use it. I would of course be VERY careful of buying a $30 battery pack that should cost like $200... you never know what Taiwanese basement that came out of ;)

    {{EDIT: Can't seem to link directly to an ebay page for some reason so I will link to the seller's page directly, he has several SZ batteries up for sale}}

    I've dealt with this seller before, he sells generic batteries but I have never felt ripped off even if they are slightly weaker than advertised. Good level of service too.

    No clue if that's the battery you need, but anyway this is a reliable site with good service, and a fair selection. Also dealt with them before.

    As stated before some of those prices can be beat on ebay buying someone's slightly used or new original battery pack....

    Also NoMem/Lenmar make good replacements as does Energizer. Dunno if they offer anything for your machine though.

    Taiwanese battery are actually better.

    I trust computer stuff made from Taiwan

    Its the ones made in "CHINA" you should worrieeee about

    General rule for desktop PSU / power supply / batteriesss

    If it feels really light (weight), don't buy.

    If you use a generic battery on a expensive computer and "touch wood" it does blow up, I don't think Sony warranty would cover it.
