    Hi everyone,
    i'd like to buy 2x1GB ram for my SZ. I've found 3 different brands that could be compatible with my SZ [and that are available in switzerland]:

    * CORSAIR Value Select VS1GSDS667D2, 1024MB, PC2-667, CL5
    * KINGSTON ValueRam KVR667D2S5/1G, 1024MB, SO-DIMM PC2-667, CL5
    * CRUCIAL CT12864AC667, 1024MB, PC2-667, CL5

    Crucial's should be better, but they are so expensive...so the choise is between the corsair's and kingston's memories... which one did you buy?

    please reply only if you bought them for your SZ!

    Thank you very much!!

    FYI, the SZ only supports up to 533mhz ram. You can use 667mhz memory, but it will not run any faster than 533mhz memory. Between those two, I would go with the Corsair.

    667mhz ram will work but not at that frequency. It will be clocked down to 533mhz.

    Why is that; because they spend more on advertising?

    There are a handful of quality brands out there with high compatibility but of the ones you mention the Corsair probably has the highest quality/value quotient which is why I bought the Corsair for myself.

    As has been mentioned why pay more for the PC5300 [667] when the motherboard won't support that speed.

    I bought 2 sticks of Corsair ValueSelect DDR-2 PC4200 533MHz for $157 U.S. from newegg.com [$75 [2] + shipping]. One of the best, most reliable companies in the world and some of the best prices, hard to beat IMHO.

    I thought that it was possible to run them at 667...if it isn't the case, as I already have 1x1GB of original memory, is it ok if I simply add 1x1GB not sony memory or it could give probems?
    thx

    It is possible to use 667 but the system will slow the memory down to 533 so why pay extra for 667.

    Sony doesn't make memory; they buy in bulk from other manufactures. What specific brand they use on any given day [and what brand ends up in your laptop] depends on who had the best price or the largest supply on-hand when they placed the order.

    As long as you buy quality RAM with wide compatibility [such as the Corsair] and as long as the speeds and the voltages are the same then you can safely mix-n-match brands.
