Whenever I insert an SD card or Sony Memory Stick in the memory card reader (VGP-MCA20) of my SZ, the computer doesn't recognize it. If I double click on the removable drive, it hangs the computer. I tried 16MB and 512MB SD Cards and 16MB Sony Memory Stick. All of them don't work. I tried them with my FW notebook and they work fine. So, it is not the media problem.

I tried to restore from Recovery DVD with Windows XP, install with Windows Vista and I still have the same problem. I have searched the forum and it seems that lots of SZ owners have this problem but no one seems to have a clear fix. Does anyone have any suggestion on how to fix this problem?

I'm pretty sure it works on mine (SZ7) - but I think I has some "odd behaviour" as to appearing, disappearing.

Do you insert the reader first and then the card, or the reader with the card?

(I basically stopped using SD cards summer 08 as I no longer use a device that uses them...)

I tried both and neither worked.

    that is strange...

If I were to guess, hardware problem.

I'd say test the expresscard slot using and expresscard...
If that works its the reader...
