Does anyone know what the letters after the model number stand for?
For example, I'm looking at buying a VGN-SZ780 NW.
What does the NW mean? I've also seen N1, N4, C, etc.

The N stands for Vista Business (who knows why they chose N, but if it was an E it would be Vista Home Premium)
The W is the only SZ780 pre-configed BTO model out there with WWAN built in. The N1, N2 and the like are other pre-configured models.
This is how Sony does it:
Sony sells direct through their own consumer facing website: sonystyle.com
They also sell their notebooks to other resellers, but they do not have an option for resellers to do BTO options for their own customers, so what they will do is offer pre-configured BTO models in the series, with a variety of different configs. Usually they create models that closely match the more popular configurations, so when a customer comes to a reseller looking for a deal on a model the created on Sony's own website, the reseller can get close.
Does that make sense. It makes sense in my head, but then I deal with the crap everyday. -
I do.
That particular model is one of the set BTO SZ780 models Sony's created for the reseller market (Newegg, PortableOne, Zones, CDW and the like).
The N stands for Vista Business
The W is the only SZ780 BTO model resellers have with WWAN built in (they do have other SZ700 models with WWAN as well)
(Dang it. Double post!)
