I just finished reading through most of the "Notebook Coolers : A Buyers Guide" thread and I saw one report of the Vaio SZ in the entire thread. The Cooler recommended for an SZ was the Zalman NC-1000, by the member X2P.

Does anyone use this cooler or anything else on their SZ? I have a SZ370P and am looking for a cooling solution. I ran Furmark on the aged Go7400 and got the GPU Temp up to 86c after 30 minutes at stock speeds of 450/700. I been thinking about the possibility of buying a cooler and replacing the fans with higher quality fans, i.e. changing out the 80x80x10 fans on the Cooler Master Notepal U2 with 28cfm Evercools (default fans are rated at <18cfm). Or swapping the fan on the Vizo Mini Ninja II with 70x70x15 29cfm Sunon Maglev's (default fans are rated at <13cfm).

The problem is these are running on USB and USB is a 5v current. Which means these default fans may be undervolted and not reaching their actual 12v speeds. So without modding a cooler and messing with all of the "what if thoughts," can anyone tell me what coolers may have worked for their Vaio SZ Notebooks?

All SZ Owners know about the hot corner in the rear left side of the rise in the under casing. This is the hottest part of the entire laptop because all of the heatpipe transfers the heat to this one location for the fan to do its magic.

    I really dislike coolers.
You are messing with carefully engineered airflow patterns.

    However, you are running hot.

When was the last time you cleaned out the heatsink? It's a 5 minute job on the SZ. Seriously. Take off the odd shaped cover on bottom, take out a3 (?) screws and the heatsink lifts out entirely.

Better yet, put a later model fan in it (a bit of work, but as cheap or less than a cooler) and will not only cool better, but run more quiet.

Also, considering the age of your system, going through and redoing the thermal compound wouldn't hurt either.

    Other tips,
Max out your ram, more ram means you spend less time processing, less heat all around helps.

SSD, you would be amazed how much heat the HD introduces into the
    system.

Besides lowering heat, it will speed up your system and increase battery life (if you choose wisely on your ssd).
