Does anyone know how long exactly the additional battery will last as opposed to the standard battery for the Sony SZ-240?

    Thanks!

Do you mean additional battery or the higher-capacity version?

The manufacturers claims are typically not accurate and meant for marketing purporses. (The only company who appears to be more truthful seems to be Toshiba at the moment.)

The user experience usually varies depending on how you use your notebook.

If you're looking at the bigger capacity version of the SZ battery, I would say that it's a safe approximate that you would get an additional 40 - 50% more time with it. (Just looking at the mAh specifications.)

I have the SZ260 and I haven't changed any settings. I get just about 3 hours with the standard battery and 4.5 with the extra capacity battery. I leave the screen on full bright. The CPU on adaptive. I mostly surf and watch TV via Sony's LocationFree TV over wireless.
It is a bit pricy but I bought the battery charger and two extra batteries. Coming from an ultraportable TR3 with the double capacity battery, it was hard to get used to swapping batteries but having the ability to have batteries on the charger while I am on the laptop makes up for that.
