The core speed of my SZ T2500 clocks in at 1000MHz now instead of 2000MHz. I noticed there was another post on this, but that a solution hadn't been found (or posted) so those of you who experienced this problem with the Core Speed if you found a way to solve this, please let me know. I'm monitering it with CPU-Z. I looked for Power Managment Drivers so I could reinstall them and I couldn't find any on the Sony eSupport site. I also changed my Power Management Scheme to "Always on" instead of "Vaio Ultimate Battery," but that didn't help. Any advice? Thanks.

Check to see if its set to adaptive. While in adaptive it will run at full speed only when its needed.

Naa, I switched it to performance. I'm really baffled.

try to install notebook hardware control. you can set it to underclock, use the dynamic switching (adaptive) or max performance. you can find it here

Sadly that program didn't help either. Is everybody elses core speed max "all the time"? Is there a good explanation for why it might be doing this?

Would anybody mind linking me to the Vaio Power Management Driver so I could reinstall it. I can't even reinstall it from "add or remove programs."

ronin.achilles has that file linked for download here. Found it in his thread about doing an SZ clean install. Hope this does the trick for you.

sigh, that didn't work either. I just used recovery wizard to reinstall Vaio Power Management and that didn't help.

My SZ90 with a T2600 jumps to max speed only when it needs it, even when plugged in. Doesn't bother me.

Frankly, it wouldn't bother me either...if it didn't cause the fan to run so often and the computer to heat up more easily, that is. :(

BTW when you press S2 on a stock SZ, what does lowering the fans revolutions do ? Is it only advisable to use when you're not pushing the machine ?

Lower the fan control doesn't help...in fact, it doesn't seem to do anything. I just want my silent laptop back!

    Doesn't help what ?

What is it supposed to do anyway ? Why is this button mapped to that command in the first place ?

I guess lowering the fan control is suppose to decrease the noise coming from the fan? I really don't know much. Also, is it possible that I can't use all 2Ghz of speed in my laptop because I've only 2 x 512MB RAM installed?

ikaris, does your core speed change any or is it always maxed?

I don't really know "why" Sony chose to map the S2 button to CPU Fan Sound Reduction. You'd have to ask Sony about that! :D

But here's what is says when I press the S2 button on my original Sony-installed system:

When I press S2, I can perceive a very slight decrease in the pitch of the fan speed but, like zswan, it does not appear to change the loud fan noise very much.
