Yes, I didn't noticed when I got it new but it's been about two weaks since the purchase and now I can see the bulge around the cover plate for the left speaker. Not only that, I even see the nearby keyboard bulged similar way. Is this norm? I've never seen a plastic cover started to bend because of excess heat. The model is SZ491. It does get really hot sometime. Will it be covered by the international warantee? I purchased it from non-authorized dealer from ebay in the U.S.

Hm - not sure about your warrantee. If its brand new it should be covered.

But it shouldn't get that hot. I leave mine running on my lap for like 3hrs it doesn't get anywhere that hot. Just warm.

Wow, this sounds so much like the Apple overheating issues.

Can you help us take a picture so we can have a look at it and please do return the machine as soon as you can for a 1-1 exchange. It's definitely a faulty product!

Do you think that Sony will grant me a warantee even if the product was purchased through Ebay from non-authorized dealer? It was brand new in a sealed box and the dealer seemed to be honest. By the way I'll post the photo as soon as I get my camera.

You won't get any warranty. That's why it was cheap.

Cheap? I don't think you can get a new SZ491 from ebay cheaper by much than from other retailers.... It's still gonna be about $2,700-$2,800 USD.

So far I have not seen any "overheating" issues on my SZ491N/X. I have only had it for about 3 days now but it has been on for about 2 days solid.

If you are talking about the slight bulge where the speaker is located at the top left, that is not due to the heat. I believe it is where the bluetooth module is located and the fitting is just not exact. Perhaps you just didn't notice the bulge before?
