I just picked up an older SZ140 on Craigslist, and this laptop is putting out tremendous heat. I can hear a fan spinning in the top left corner of the chassis, but there is barely any airflow.

The fan does not appear to be clogged. Is there any fan control utility you would recommend that would help to remedy the issue?

    Thanks in advance

The fan is easy to access from the larger panel on the bottom. Check it out. While you are in there replace the thermal grease on the cpu with Artic Silver, that will help. Also, do a clean install of the software, mainly the OS. That's all I can think of..

Unscrew the cover on the underside of the notebook, and you will see the screw that secure the heatsink. Remove it and scrape off older thermal compound (or thermal pad) with a razor blade. Replace with AS5, just a grain of rice sized amount will do.
