My SZ260 isn't recognizing the adapter. When I plug it in, nothing happens, so I can't charge the battery or run the laptop on AC power. I've tried multiple plugs so it's not the plug, and everything is plugged in correctly on the adapter itself. I've also tried two different batteries (my original one and higher capacity one) and restarted my computer. This happened once several months ago, but I fiddled with it and restarted the computer and it started working again. No luck this time though. Any idea what is causing this and how I can fix it? Thanks in advance!

Are you sure that the adaptor is delivering power? You can test with a multimeter.

Do you wind the LV cable around the adaptor when you pack the computer away? If so, this may have broken the conductors (usually close to where they come out of the adaptor). You may get temporary power by wiggling the cable in that area but the permanent fix is to by-pass the damaged section.

Yeah, sounds like you need a new AC adaptor. Early SZ and S series has a known, but not widely spread, issue with low quality AC adaptor.

Thanks guys, you were right... it was my adapter. I took my computer to the closest Sony store so I could test their adapter and their's worked fine.

John, I think you are right about one of the conductors being broken. My adapter is working now, but I think it is working inconsistently. I'll probably have to replace it in the near future.

Thanks for your help guys! :)
