I'm thinking of buying the SZ370p/c

I'd like to know the maximum displayable resolution when attached to a very high res external LCD monitor via DVI.

Sony's website doesn't post this information and I even called Sony tech support and they didn't know!!! WTF?

Anyone here have this model and know this answer?

    Thanks.

Single link DVI goes up to 162MHz pix clock, or UXGA@60Hz. It can handle WUXGA as well with reduced blankings. That's about it.

    I've got a 30' Dell (2650x1600) and a 23' Sony (1920x1200) LCD. I'm assuming only the 23' resolution is possible?

Unless you have dual link DVI, correct.

You can forget 2650 x 1600 on pretty much all GPU's. What are you driving it with right now?

Dell is running at full res on: Intel E6700, ATi X1950XTX

Sony is running at full res on: AMD 4800 X2, ATi X1900 AIW

The SZ370p uses the nVidia Go 7400, correct? nVidia's site says the 7400 can only do 2048x1536. So I guess the SZ will be using the 1920x1200 Sony, unless the software on the SZ limits the max res?

Getting the 1920x1200 may require some tweaking (powerstrip, modded inf) but should wprk on the VGA output.

Upon further inspection: you are aware this Vaio doesn't have DVI, right? Only VGA?

You'll need the docking station to get DVI.

So, will the displayable resolution be different for DVI and VGA?

    Yes. VGA goes higher.

does the sz support a 1920x1200 via dvi (through the dock)?

has this been tested? -- have a dell 2405fpw and would like to use it with the laptop
