I'm looking into buying an HDTV over the coming few months. I'm feeling compelled to go for a 1080p set, as it's likely to gain more and more support in the coming years. I was wondering though if the Vaio SZ is capable of outputting at 1920x1080, as been able to use an HDTV as a large external monitor is quite appealling. I don't expect to be able to game at that resolution, I just want to use it for normal desktop applications if possible. I don't have the docking station so it'll need to be through the VGA port. If anyone has any experience with using a Vaio SZ with a 1080p screen could you let me know if it worked well?

Personally, I would look into an external monitor instead of a TV. They'll both use VGA, but the monitor is cheaper for the same performance.

From what I gather, if you get a monitor bigger than 22", the VGA connection will not be the best for clarity.

I'm quite sure you can achieve HD resolution with the go 7400, but you'll have to shut the VAIO monitor off as I believe the external monitor can only match that of the laptop screen if both are in use.

I have a 20.1" UXGA LCD that lost its DVI input when my GPU burnt out. Its VGA works, but it is considerably less crisp than it was with an older GPU and DVI.

52" 96 series LCD panel with my laptop and it looks excellent.
