I'm thinking of getting the logitech quickcam fusion and it seems like most webcams nowadays are supposed to be mounted on the screen. Is the screen of the premium SZ too thin for the quickcam fusion to be mounted on it?
-
Hey, weren't you on zd7000forums.com? I used to have a zd7000 till the motherboard blew chunks after just over one year. Had the Go5700...figures.
Anyway, not sure about your question, but the SZ series does come with webcam built in unless you custom order one without. -
I thought all of the premium sz's came with a webcam.
-
They do. Maybe he doesnt know the Sz's have builtin web cams -
I know it comes with a webcam but i was thinking of picking up a higher quality webcam from logitech
so will i be able to mount the quickcam fusion on the top of the 4mm thick screen we have? -
You're saying there are better cameras??
I see the camera you're talking about -- it looks nice. It seems small enough, but Amazon says it weighs 2 lbs. Still it would probably be okay. I watched the CNET video and Laura Luepke shows how you can place it on the desk as well as hanging it from the laptop. Try to find a local store that will let you try it out.

have you tried the sz camera? its pretty **** good.

Agree as well... it's high quality. Ssurprisingly good in low light as well.
-
The 2lbs of weight on Amazon probably inlcudes packaging. Get the integration webcam. Works fine for me.

I have my SZ160 already and somehow the webcam isn't as good as my friend's logitech. I didn't expect much from a built in webcam anyways.
-
Well, compared to something like the Fusion (which I have for my desktop) the SZ's webcam is actually pretty crummy in low light. The Fusion is quite amazing.
Yes, the SZ's camera is certainly usable, but it all depends on what you're going to be using it for. -
can you try mounting the fusion on your SZ and see if you can do it?
-
It can be done but it's not ideal.
First it sort of just "rests" on the screen with the top of the case pressed into the "point" on the Fusion's small hook, and the rubber base culcing down to directly under the camera.
If you tilt the screen any further back than about 15 degrees or so, the flexible rubber base can't be bent any sharper to press on the back of the screen, so the camera can wobble on a pivot point.
Additionally, since this isn't the exact mounting style originally intended (it *is* sold as a desktop camera), the angle of the camera will be exactly the same as the angle of the screen (the only adjustment left is towards the ceiling)... which is of course no different than the built-in camera, so it should probably be OK.
SZ series premium screen too thin for webcam?
