Well I think there's the first problem - there isn't much SSD around and they are very expensive and relatively small in storage size.

But yes I think it's doable.

You can replace it. There are a few around but I would wait for the 64GB Samsung ones which should be around next month.
The 32GB are selling for $400 and I am sure they will drop when the 64GB appear.
Dont worry about the storage. Laptop HD's are not for storage but for speed and reliability. If you want storage get a 500GB external drive for $100 which no laptop HD can come even close.

As long as you can find a 2.5" SATA version, you can replace your drive like you would with a traditional drive.

Good point - well if there's a 64Gb around with reasonable price then it'll be perfect! :D

Unfortunately you're wrong. I just checked newegg and it was selling the drive for $489. The problem is that it's sold out. It also has a PATA interface so it won't be useful for some of the notebooks out there.

The question is whether all 1.8" hard drives uses the PATA interface? If so, this looks like a pretty reasonable price to me.

I replaced my SZ drive with a memoright GT from neogeo.

The self-install is NOT for the faint of heart, but my system is now easily twice as fast. Many forget that these laptops come with very slow drives at 5400rpm etc... The GT is faster than the 10000rpm HDDs in read/write. The SSDs 40x access speed is what really speeds up the system though, because it makes everything respond faster. 4 ms versus 0.1 ms is a huge difference, and coupled with the superior read/write, this drive is faster in every which way. Even web pages load faster.

This is a testament to how good these second generation SSDs are, but also to how slow notebook HDDs are in general.

Kimblebron: Did yours work right away or did you have to do anything to it to make it work?

I bought a 120GB SATA SSD for my SZ370P/C but it won't boot. When I install it and try to boot it up, the HDD light stays on right from boot and the Vista Setup DVD won't recognize the SSD as a installable hard drive even though I've updated to the latest BIOS and the BIOS recognizes the SSD as a 120GB hard drive.

The one I bought is one from Super Talent from newegg. It should work since my old hard drive is SATA too. I don't know why it's not working.

I guess the answer to the poster's original question is no if it's the Super Talent 120GB SATA SSD but yes it it's the Memoright GT 64GB SATA SSD.

I bought that Super Talent 120GB drive from newegg to put in my Thinkpad T60. I returned it for refund a few weeks ago. It took longer to load and shutdown Windows than with a 7200rpm hard drive. Not a great product, IMHO.
