I'm getting my SZ-140 today, and I have a question.

I keep seeing everyone talking about a clean install of XP. What is this, and why do I need it?

    Thanks!

a clean install is a reinstall of windows, from a windows xp cd.

it's clean because it does not contain all the extra software
included in the default sony installation.

no one needs it, it's personal preference.

any special setting or performance increase can be had with
a default installation as well, for example by uninstallng soft-
    ware or by changing settings.

however, a clean install may well be problematic if you need
sony support to help you solve a problem, as they will expect
you to run the windows and accompanying software (read:
sony libraries, tools, etc.. not adobe premiere and such) they
    provided.

oh, and enjoy your new system =]

    thanks!

So basically if there are extras I want to get rid of, I could just do it through add/remove programs?
