When is it too noisy? Mine is fine under normal web browsing, it's on and off and just very quiet. Only starts blasting off when its really under intensive applications.

I really didn't have a problem with noisy fans on my SZ460; in most cases it was dead quiet, frankly.

The only time I could really get the fans to be audibly loud was after a long gameplaying session, when the CPU temp also got very high, but even then it wasn't too bad.

    mine's really quiet.

it's only noisy when under intense cpu usage.

perhaps your fan is dirty. i'd recommend cleaning it with compressed air.

Mine's Adapative instead of level numbers. I guess it's more flexible. Increasing when needed, decreasing when not. :)

click your battery icon. Click More power options. After that, click "Change plan settings" with the selected power plan. A window will appear and then click the link below saying "Change advanced power setting". Another window will appear. Click Vaio Power Management.

I suggest use level 5 when you are in performance mode or AC plugged-in. Just experience bit sluggish issue when in Adaptive mode when plugged-in.

there should be an icon located on your listpane along the taskbar. bearing this orange-like lightning. click this. the website for support update for your model should be listed and bearing checkmarks if you havent downloaded it yet. If this solution didnt work, go and click the link below. click the model closest to yours since most SZ3s and SZ4s have common hardware/software set and only differs on model convention coding.

    VAIO United kingdom support

Often times, i download my drivers and updates using this site for the reason that this is the most updated. For example, my SZ48 has this Go7400 video driver dated Dec. 2006, whereas the UKs has this February 2007 release.

In Control Panel, go to "Power Options". From there, cyou can select "Portable/Laptop" from the list, under the "Power Schemes" box. You can check if the processor is already running at that speed by downloading CPU-Z, and seeing whether it is either 1 GHz or 2 GHz.

is that set at stamina? mine doesn't make a peep and i haven't even upgraded the power management thingamabob.

i'm using: vaio optimized, cpu adaptive, stamina mode, and fan speed is adaptive.

i'd check the cpu. if a process using using a lot of cpu then obviously the fans will spin at max. if the cause is not related to the cpu then i'd suspect dust on the heatsink/fans/etc.

you just go to control panel. System > Device Manager or after clicking System, you will see Device manager on links left pane (Vista only). Click that. After this, search for your Graphics Adapter from the list. Right click it then Properties. From there, the details tab. You will your driver version and the date when it was released or signed by Microsoft Digital Driver signature. :)

By the way, the way Windows update function is quite dumb. Ok i know, the update system only checks for verified or signed drivers. but this is foolish. So instead, download direct from manufacturer. Nvidia to be exact. Or you can use the modified (non-official driver for Go7400) from softpedia. Here's the link. of course this is not microsoft signed. But it works perfectly on me.

    http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/GRAPHICS-BOARD/NVIDIA/NVIDIA-GeForce-Go-GorceWare-812-WHQL.shtml

by the way, there's a lot of upgrades that Vista don't upgrade if if you use Windows update. One important update would be our Intel 802.xx wi-fi module. head to intel.com and search for your wi-fi module model. Control Panel > System > Device Manager again. Happy updating!!! :D

This process is quite ah... simple.

Go to My Computer. Click on your C: drive. Browse through
    C:\Program Files\Sony\VAIO Power Management\

There's these two files with .EXE extensions. spmview.exe and the other spmgr.exe. Right click these files (one at a time of course) then click properties. from there you will be seeing the file version and Software version. the latter file would be your power management program. :)

By the way there's these new updates for WinDVD and Program Management System. Just follow the process above to see the current versions and note it down. After your update, follow the same process. You should see the version changes of course.

cool. that's great. :D our vaio now rocks. lol. and by the way, have a proper air circulation and ventilation on the place where you are working. heat humidity should also be observed for our machines to work on their optimal performance. dont put your vaio on plastics or cloths as well. Wood, metal tables ang glass would be better to put your vaio on. :)

FYI don't install SZ4x Power Management on an SZ2x. I just did and Power Management won't start anymore.
