I have both SZ160 and SZ691s and noticed that for both of the the little tab(above the webcam) on top of the screen is pretty flimsy. I'm worried that it might get looser every single time i flip the laptop screen open

I had the same problem for my 680. For me, the notebook seem like it was not glued together correctly and the screen will click and shift when I opened it. I sent it back and they said they fixed it. It is better now but it seemed to be reverting back to its old self everytime I open my lid.

The LED lids are not in any way "glued" together, they are pressure fit/snapped together and secured with small screws hidden behind the rubber bumpers on the inside of the lid.

Yes, this design causes a bit of flex and creaking but that is in fact part of the design with panels that are so thin - they bend - but don't break. The ductility of the CF materials in the SZ Premiums allow for a lot of energy to be absorbed. A more rigid design would result in a much higher incidence of cracking and breaking.

My SZ Premium is now two years old, is used every day, has been on four different continents and nearly 100 flight segments, and has never had a single issue save for a few nagging design flaws [keyboard space bar, metal palm rest leaving a crease line in LCD panel, etc.].

I did not know that. Thank you for the info. You must be hard core Sony fan to defend their product with so much fervor. ;)

Nope, my first Sony laptop [I generally don't like Sony products/designs], and their customer service sucks, but there is no reason to make issues where none exists IMHO.

If one wants a < 4 lbs laptop with a 1/8" thick LED screen then the thing is going to be somewhat 'flexible' and wll creak a bit...

Granted but you can see why, for some consumers, it is a bit disconcerning that their $2500 notebook screen shifts and makes sounds like it will break.

That aside, I love my SZ but I still believe this issue is the result of faulty manufactoring as I did not see/hear this problem in the store/friends models.

But nothing is perfect so let's move on.

yep. as unplugged said in #4, and speaking as someone who work in a manufacturing environment, this is normal.
