    Hello all,

I bought a Vaio SZ series last night but still debating if I should return it for a TX-750 instead. I really like the TX-750 but my only concern is the 1.20Ghz as opposed to the 1.83 Ghz. For those of you who are computer whiz, is 1.20Ghz really slow. I will be using this mainly for personal use (email/surfing the web/instant messenger). Please advise.

    Thanks in advance,

    MQ

Notebook Performance depends more on the amount of RAM, rather than the processor speed. For tasks such as email, chatting, surfing, the processor speed does not really matter.

The TX-750 came with a 512RAM but I can easily upgrade it upto 1.5GB. Also the TX has only Pentium M and the SZ has the DUO. Can this make a difference as well? I am sorry if this sound like a dumb question. I was told that 1.20Ghz is slow

yes, duo will make a difference, especially if you have alot of background processes running (antivirus, etc. etc.)

however, the difference is less when you are doing non-cpu-intensive things like web browsing and word processing.

upgrading the RAM will probably get you what you want.

Have you looked at the TX850? It's newer than the 750, with the biometric sensor and most importantly with the new Core solo that gives you 10hrs of battery life.

1.2GHz is not that bad (I am using T250 and the core solo 1.2ghz UX180p). I just surf/email/IM/some web designs/programming and it is quite responsive even with 512MB.

Outie: No I haven't looked up the TX850. The reason why I am interested in purchasing the 750 is its because of the same price as the SZ series I have at the moment. Your T250 has a core solo? The T750 has only Pentium M.

Well, my mind is changed now after reading that other thread.
I would have heavily considered the TX had I known about it.
What my parents advised me to do (and I never listen) was buy
multiple notebooks to try out, and return all but my one favorite.
Ah, well. It's too late, and the SZ is fine.

Know that the TX will always be restricted to minimal processes, though.
Still the ability to enjoy media without booting up windows is awfully tempting.
And the weight--for those of us who've had major orthopedic surgery on our leg--it's great.

I read about 11 hours of battery life, and I'm a bit skeptical, considering even SonyStyle isn't this blatantly arrogant.

    Up to you, whatever, really.
If you're a healthy young man or woman, however, you can lug around an extra pound.

Thanks once again for the info. I have the weeend to think about it but really the TX750 is very tempting. I know that I will get more for my money with the SZ but I do like the portability of the TX.

newbieSZ, I'm in the same boat as you. I just bought a TX770P/B from a local seller. I had a T150 and TX650P/B in the past, and both of these were awesome ultraportables. After testing out an SZ at the local Circuit City, however, I'm now tempted to go the slight increase in length and width to get that kind of processing power.

One footnote, though: I also have a UX180P. My second struggle is keeping it over my TX vs. SZ decision. I'll let you know what happens.
