    Hi Guys,

I would like to share my experience when I deal with Sony Technical support for the window feature turn on/ off problem for my Vaio VGN-SZ433N.

I bought this Vaio VGN-SZ433N 3 weeks ago, my problem is I cannot turn
on / off with the Windows features (Even just IIS). At first, I thought there might be incompatibility with the softwares I installed. Hence, I did a full recovery, However, I still encountered the same problem.

I only realized that all the laptops with this model are having the same problem when I tried the display set at Sony Gallery. Then I called the technical support and he told me that it is a known bug and they are developing the patch and need to wait for a week.

The guy did call me up after a week (Yesterday). He told me that the new patch has been ready and asked me to bring it down to service center for replace a new image of recovery partion and do a recovery for 2-3 hours. so I went down to Service Center with my laptop and explain my problem to the helpdesk guy, then the guy told me what I need to do is do a COMPLETELY RECOVERY by myself (The last option for recovery tools) and it should solve my problem, if not then I need to bring it down again and send it to workshop. If this a case, i don't know what the hell of the phone technical support told me that the new patch is developing and asked me to bring it down. If I can do it myself without new patch then I don't need to wait for another week.

I purchased Sony laptop because it is a reliable and reputable brand, However, I am surprised that since there is a known bug, but they didn't explain to their customer and inform their dealer to explain this to customer during purchase instead of keeping silent on this matter. In this case, I feel cheated and disappointed.

Due to rush my work, I cancelled my order from Asus laptop with delay shipment and I bought this Vaio VGN-SZ433N 3 weeks ago. If I had known I will have to wait for the problem to be solved, I will have waited for Sony Vaio SZ6 that will be released in August 2007.

I don't understand why I purchased a new product but need to wait for the patch to start my work. I will do my recovery tonight and it cannot resolve my problem then I will definitely ask to exchange a new laptop or refund to go for Dell XPS 1330. (feel like fooled around by SONY technical support)

I think you are missing the good service aspect... he said he would call you in a week and he DID! that sort of thing never happens these days. sure there still seems to be some glitch in his advice, but I'd call him back and tell him what the sony store people said. perhaps it was a local jerk's fault and not really a sony problem? i don't know, but frankly him calling you back is hard to call VERY poor service in my book...

in any event, good luck with it. i know it's not fun to have your new toys not work properly--especially when the toys are needed and not just for fun.

Yes, you are right. he did callback is good if he was not just tried to cover his mistake and caused me to wait for another week.

I think I missed to mentioned the conversation between the technical support and I at the service center. He told me that this guy (phone support) email him to tell that just do a completely recovery from my laptop for me. Thus, this center support advised me to go home do a recoverey myself then I don't need to wait there for 3 hours.

It is not a local jerk's problem. I went to a sony gallery in another country tried with the same model and all having the same problem. It is truly a Sony's fault.

Anyway, I am doing a recovery now and see what will happen. Well, thanks for your opinions and I will keep posted the result once the recovery is completed.

Turn windows features on /off is under Control panel -> programs. It is to turn on/ off the programs like IIS or windows games. When I checked the Internet Information Services, it will prompts a windows for "Please wait while the features are configured". Then, my problem is the progress bar is not run and just disappeared. After that, it does not install anything and Even Viewer with error "Windows servicing failed to complete the process of setting packages..."

I confirmed it only happen with this model for all the display set at sony gallery. Also, the Sony phone technical support told me it is a known bug for this model. I am suprised Sony didn't take action to call back for this model since it is a known bug.

I just completed the recovery that advised by techincal support at Sony service center. IT DOES NOT WORKS!!!!! I still having the same problem and cannot start my work. Tomorrow I will complain all the way to the SONY HQ in Singapore.
