SZ with different kind of Core duo: heat & battery issues?

    - So far, vaio SZ has been equipped with different intel core duo, e.g: T2300, T2400, T2500 and T2600. All of them have the same power: 31W and Architecture: 65 nm. I am wondering whether the higher speed of processor will generate more heat and drain more battery? If so, SZ with T2500 (2.0GHz) should have less battery life and get warmer than SZ with T2400 (1.83)....

    - And anybody know that next generation of SZ would come with Intel® Core™2 Duo processor?

All Yohana processors come from the same chip regardless of speed.

That is to say that 1.6GHz, 1.8GHz, 2.0Ghz, and 2.1GHz chips all could come from the same glass substrate but because of micro imperfections present in each final chip some will run reliably at higher speeds than will others thus they are marketed [and priced] accordingly.

This is why all chips have the same power consumption. While the higher clocked chips do generate more heat in absolute terms, as a practical concern in your notebook there really isn't much of a difference thus little discernable difference the heat generated or in useable battery life.

Of course only Sony knows exactly when the change-over will occur but it really is just a matter of time.

Assuming [1] the power requirements are essentially the same [or hopefully even less] and [2] Intel doesn't change the socket design and [2] Sony provides a BIOS update there is reason to believe that we SZ owners should be able to upgrade to the Core 2 Duo's.

Duo 2 chips require a different motherboard. The chip pins might be the same, but the FSB is much faster.

Core 2 is already launching out. Those who are using SZ now may not be able to upgrade to Core2 by next few months.

Haven't seen any firm specs for the Core 2 yet [I don't usually bother to memorize vapor-ware specs until they materialize] but I would not be surprised by significant changes.

So, exactly how much faster than 667 is the new FSB?

    Edited to add:

Looks like the Core 2 Duo is going to be utilizing the new Intel 965/975 and nForce4/500 chipsets.

Definitely no SZ upgrade possibilities here…

Actually the Core 2 Duo that is being released at the end of this month is for desktops, the Conroe series.

As for the Merom series, which is the mobile Core 2 Duo, the first release of it is going to be pin compatible with the current Core Duo, Yonah series. The Merom series is not slated for release until August.

I have read 1 or 2 people trying a Merom in a SZ and it working but there was small issues I believe. If Sony does release a BIOS update, perhaps that address those issues but we'll see with time.

I was also told that from core duo to core2duo is just a minor improvement. But not clear how the core2 is faster in comparison with core duo.

I know many people vote for SZ because of its sleek design. So they would like to see Sony keeps introducing newer SZ models (e.g. SZ3xx, SZ4xx...)with core2duo.
