    Hi!

I'm the owner of a Vaio SZ1VP/C notebook.
2 weeks ago, i got the "usual" "no battery" problem with it. (XP's control panel said "no battery" and unplugging power supply shut the PC down).

So, I bought a new one (a noname) and plugged it in.
It was immediately recognized as a Sony (who cares if it works), charged up to 86%.
I plugged my original battery, and was again recognized as well(!), 100% charged(!)
... but... if I unplug mains, the laptop instantly shuts down...
I tried with another power supply (a 12V car adapter) and the problem remains.

In both cases, the laptop says "charging" in XP's battery monitor. The led battery charging is also blinking (orange led)

I don't know my bios version, but it's not the "vista upgrade" as related in the battery problem topic.
I tried to reset bios to default settings: no improvement.
I disassembled it (warranty is over) to remove and shortcut contacts of the battery just below the trackpad. Time/date went back to 2005 but nothing improved...

Do you have an idea why my laptop doesn't work when power supply is removed? Or an idea of something to do?

    Thanks by advance :)

So I'd assume if you have the battery plugged in but the primary outlet disconnected, that you are not able to turn the laptop on?

Also what contacts of the battery below the trackpad are you referring to? I recall the small battery below the trackpad is for the BIOS. So disconnecting that would reset your BIOS.

Yes, if I unplug mains with the battery inserted, the laptop doesn't turn on.
About the battery below the trackpad, it was indeed BIOS battery. I unplugged it, and shortcut the contacts on the motherboard (not on the battery of course)
    Sorry if I was unclear...

    Busted charging circuit/battery recognition circuit.

I suggest speaking to sony about it.

BTW, it does work if you take the battery out and use the computer with A/C only?

Tip: remove battery and A/C. Hold powerbutton for 30 seconds, twice. Insert battery and try. it is worth a try, but most likley wont work. Could be a dodgy capacitor or something in case it works temporarily.

    Thank you, Daelyn

It does work if I use the computer with A/C, with or without a battery inserted in.

I'll give a try to your tip (and leave a feedback here)

I have a sony VGN-S460, my problem is exactly the same! pc says its charging, but remains at 0% even after several hours. as soon as i pull the cord the pc immediately shuts off. i ended up ordering a new laptop(t61)and i'm converting my current sony into a desktop (adding a monitor, keyboard and mouse)

I tried Daelyn's idea. For myself at least, it didn't work...
BTW, I forgot to mention: my original battery is shown at 0% charge (not 100% anymore), but already before this test.

Well, to be honest, it only works in a few percent of the cases I get, but still worth a try.
