    hi
i've got a few questions about the vaio sz 270+ models:

    1) are edge networks which are not cingular supported (i dont live in the usa)? i mean, can i put my own local sim inside?

    2) is it possible to remove the antenna? or, how noticable is it. i mean, if i buy the device and there is no generic edge support, it would be pretty irritating that there's a useless antenna coming out of the laptop.

    3) are there model of the premium sz (carbon fiber, thin lcd) with no antenna?

    4) how better is the 270+ lcd display comparing with the 210-240 display? is it worth to buy the 270+ just because of the better lcd display?

    1. Yes, you can unlock the Cingular EDGE modem and use it with other services. I know of people who have done it with T-Mobile. So it can be done.

    2. The antenna can be removed, but then there is this hole in the side of your notebook, without a cap. Might bother some, but....

    3. There are models of the premium SZ without the antenna - SZ250 and SZ260.

    4. The LED backlit displays are really amazing and the weight it saves does help a ton.

Is there a reason why the sz-260 aint sold on sonystyle.com?
is it a bad model or something (i read that there are issued with the space bar on some sz models)

No, it's one of the retail models.
IMO, get the SZ-250 at PortableOne.
It's the one I got, considering I didn't care for the Cingular and WAN junk.

I'd say go with the SZ250 as well. It only comes with 512MB of RAM, but the extra $200 to go with the SZ260 only get's you 512MB more and a 120GB HD vs. the 100GB HD of the SZ250.

Check out Zones for decent pricing. Better bet would be to call their 800.419.9663 number and see if you can get them to reduce their price!

does the sz260 or the sz250 suffer from the electroshock issue mentioned here at the forum?

Unfortunately the electroshock issue is not dependent on the model. There's no way to tell whether you'll have it or not.
